UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection gets Steam Deck Verified ahead of release
19 Oct 2022 at 8:43 pm UTC

Quoting: Adam_eMSadly, it doesn't work for me. Nothing is happening, and the game is returning to the "play now" state after a while.
Same. I tried multiple proton versions. I don't know what they did on the steam deck to get it verified.

Valve dev understandably not happy about glibc breaking Easy Anti-Cheat on Linux

Quoting: minidouAlso, didn't Valve add the steam runtimes to counter exactly this kind of issue ? If some software need ancient dependencies, don't use system ones, use a set of libs managed by steam.
There's a reason Windows is a huge bloated mess, and it's because they maintain compatibility with ancient software that a lot of enterprise clients still use. I don't know that this is really a case of one way being right and the other being wrong. It's just a different approach. The very thing that makes Linux so much better on portable devices like the Steam Deck also comes with the drawback of not having every ancient library crammed into it in order to keep compatibility with IBM XT computers from 1983. In that regard, Wine is a great alternative.

Spider-Man Remastered is awesome on Steam Deck

Quoting: mAdCraZyaJIt is such a good game. I’m going to be urging my buddies that didn’t play it on PlayStation to pick it up! Hopefully the Nvidia related bugs get patched up soon though.
I have got it going, Proton Experimental with NVIDIA 3060. Playing on medium to high settings.
Saves having to boot my PS4 up, which has been put away with all my other consoles. This game is absolutely stunning, a fantastic port to PC. Seeing the Steam Deck running it so well, is amazing. I'm in two minds to get a Steam Deck, as majority of games that can in Steam Deck, can run just fine on Desktop.
It was running fine for me yesterday but has crashed multiple times today. It's hard to tell if it's because of something in Proton or if it's just the game itself, especially when some Windows users are getting crashes too. Hopefully some patches will iron things out.

Run around a cyberpunk city as a lost cat in Stray - out now

It crashed for me the first time after the opening scene. I switched to DX12 and have been fine since, not sure if that was actually necessary or if it was just a one-time glitch.

Stray is the most wishlisted Steam game and it's Steam Deck Verified

Quoting: Mountain ManI've wishlisted it, but I'm not going to be an early adopter. I'll let others take that risk, and if the user reviews are positive, then I'll buy.
I would recommend all Nvidia users wait. Even if it's Steam Deck verified, that only guarantees it works on AMD.

itch.io are hosting a big Indie Bundle for Abortion Funds

Quoting: slaapliedjeNow that being said, the reason I put 'voted' in quotes is because of recently in Utah everyone voted for marijuana to be legal here. Instead the government pretty much just said 'well... it'll sort of be legal. You have to have an ailment on this very limited list, and you're not allowed to use it just for fun... or for anything besides this tiny list...' So even though the majority ruled, the ones who actually write the laws didn't pass any of the ones that were voted for.

Inevitably Utah is one that had a 'trigger' law, that had basically been in place 'just in case' Roe v Wade was overturned. Papa Gov knows best, right?
"Majority rule" is only one part of American "democracy." The other part of it is minority rights, that all people have the right to life, liberty and property. Unfortunately, most of American history has been spent arguing over what a person even is. This is a country that literally had laws saying a slave represented three-fifths of a person. There are even legal arguments for and against a corporation being treated as a "person."

Now I suppose the argument is over whether a fetus is a person with rights to be carried to term and whether it's acceptable to take away the rights of the person carrying the fetus. Sadly, the supreme court seems interested in taking away rights rather than granting them. They've already attacked the "right to remain silent" when arrested and are now taking aim at the right to vote in the gerrymandering case they're about to hear. You can bet that "Critical Race Theory" and other issues on the white supremacist agenda will be up for debate too.

You could make arguments about "state rights," but anyone with half a brain can see that's just a mirage for instituting fascism through the back door. It really is just about control, and while it's being driven by Republicans, Democrats have been complicit all along for fear of losing their own power. Honestly, and not to belittle the situation, abortion is kind of low on the list in terms of freedoms Americans should be worried about losing.

AMD publishes the source code for FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 (FSR 2)
23 Jun 2022 at 12:15 pm UTC

Quoting: EhvisI'm wondering about the "anti-aliasing" bit. This is what I've always been interested in. Can you render at normal resolution and just use it as a form of anti-aliasing. Would the results be good?

Replacing TAA sounds a bit worrying though. As I understood from a tech discussion by Star Citizen devs (in response to making TAA optional), TAA often includes more than just anti-aliasing and can be very hard to separate from other rendering features. If so, that may hinder adoption.
Well, DLSS replaces TAA, so I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to think that FSR2 could replace it. I actually prefer the way DLSS looks compared to TAA.

One of the highest rated games on Steam, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is Steam Deck Verified

Quoting: Perkeleen_VittupääI see the first one had native Linux support but Divinity II does not
Which is part of the reason I'm not giving Larian any money anymore, yes.

They completely fucked up Linux support for Divinity: Original Sin, then had it there for the Enhanced Edition, but by then they already started on Divinity: Original Sin II and didn't merge anything back. Just an utter clown car of a company.
Larian make just great games, I finished both DO:S on Linux. Some of the greatest games ever made.
One must be able to forgive and look forward.
It's pointless. The Bitter Nerd Brigade knows no forgiveness, only anger.
Both games are still my favorites.

NVIDIA stable driver 515.48.07 out now, Gamescope improvements and more
2 Jun 2022 at 12:02 am UTC

Quoting: STiATActually, the Nvidia open source driver DOES implement HDMI FRL (https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-kernel-modules/blob/main/src/nvidia-modeset/src/nvkms-hdmi.c#L2064 [External Link]).

This is legally more than questionable. I don't know if that slipped through when putting the drivers open source, or if they had some legal agreement with the HDMI Forum... but that well could end up in court.
The plot thickens.
