PlayOnLinux has a new alpha release out with an overhaul of the interface

Quoting: TheSHEEEPOof... Can't they just join forces with Lutris and produce something that actually works?

PlayOnLinux hasn't worked well for me in years since it is so outdated in actual game scripts.
Lutris doesn't even manage to install Steam Wine correctly, so that it freezes at startup due to the script somehow messing up the 32/64bit versions.

I was kinda hoping POL would go the way of the dodo and more people would join the Lutris project, since that does seem way more promising (partly due to NOT being limited to linux).
I used POL for several years, not for their scripts (as for Lutris, scripts are obsolete too fast) but to manage easier Wine prefix and others tweaks/operation.

And POL is not limited to Linux, but there is a version for Macosx too.
I'm not as sure as you that Lutris is more promising than POL, we have here two big challenger and you don't have to choose only one of them, you can use the two, like I do.

I don't understand his reaction, does he overreact?
Anyway thank you for your great apps (sc-controller and wine controller dll), I regurlarly use them, hope to see you soon in the Linux community.

Valve launched a dynamic on the Linux platform that others actors can not ignore. Good to see that.

I didn't think "retro" style gaming would find a second breath and interest from gamers.
I'm absolutely interesting by this game.

Valve have updated the Beta of Steam Play which fixes VR games, fullscreen improvements and more

This two games could be Whitelisted:
Darksiders
Dark Souls
but cinematics does not play.
On Wine you have to install wmp9, but it is not possible to install it with Proton, because Proton uses 64 bits prefix and you can not install wmp9 on 64 bits Wine prefix.
I can not wait for Steam to add "Windows Media Player codecs" Proton compatible feature.

I'm waiting for a Proton version with:
--> DXVK directx10
--> Faudio integration: https://github.com/FNA-XNA/FNA/issues/90#issuecomment-415503383 [External Link]
--> windows media player replacement for video and music in games in MS format.

Quoting: YaumeisterIs there anyway to force Steam to download the Windows version of a game (911 Operator), rather than a broken and now unsupported Linux version?

I tried to do this via SteamCMD, which I managed to force download it, but as soon as I launch the Steam Client, it does an update and download the Linux version.
Meanwhile they add this feature (there is already an issue opened on github about this one), you have to use Steam in a wiine prefix.

I know the spreadsheet, but it doesn't allow to give a good feedback or workarounds that people made in order to get to a 100% working game, not to mention that if it keeps growing it will eventually collapse. Right now there are plenty of games that needs wmp9 or similar extras in order to work, and that information is quite tricky (if not impossible) to share on a spreadsheet. Also, I doubt that Valve will be able to workaround such problems in the short term.[/quote]Steamplay is not Wine, in the point as: you launch the game, it works or it doesn't work, the objective is not the users tweak the Proton prefixn, add a DLL etc...So it's not important if you can not add workarounds in the database. There is WINEHQ forum and WINEHQ bugzilla for that.
You are right, some game needs wmp9 to work or to see cinematics. But Proton has 64 bits prefix and you can not install wmp9 on 64 bits prefix. Then I think Valve will not use microsoft dll, they are searching to implement directly the DLL function as code in Proton. For example, more games have no sound because they need xaudio. Recently they integrate Faudio, a free xaudio replacement library: https://github.com/FNA-XNA/FNA/issues/90#issuecomment-415503383 [External Link], so the sound bug will be soon resolved.

Quoting: x_wingMaybe a quick solution would be to create a steamplay forum on each windows-only game."
Again it already exists --> Winehq forum and WInehq Bugzilla

me and a friend who also using proton was unable to play street fighter IV online together, and also I couldn't connect online to Helldivers either, and Metal Gear Solid V won't connect online either.
You took example from games that are not yet whitelisted. All you have to do for the moment is to open an issue and wait.
