I know the spreadsheet, but it doesn't allow to give a good feedback or workarounds that people made in order to get to a 100% working game, not to mention that if it keeps growing it will eventually collapse. Right now there are plenty of games that needs wmp9 or similar extras in order to work, and that information is quite tricky (if not impossible) to share on a spreadsheet. Also, I doubt that Valve will be able to workaround such problems in the short term.[/quote]Steamplay is not Wine, in the point as: you launch the game, it works or it doesn't work, the objective is not the users tweak the Proton prefixn, add a DLL etc...So it's not important if you can not add workarounds in the database. There is WINEHQ forum and WINEHQ bugzilla for that.
You are right, some game needs wmp9 to work or to see cinematics. But Proton has 64 bits prefix and you can not install wmp9 on 64 bits prefix. Then I think Valve will not use microsoft dll, they are searching to implement directly the DLL function as code in Proton. For example, more games have no sound because they need xaudio. Recently they integrate Faudio, a free xaudio replacement library: https://github.com/FNA-XNA/FNA/issues/90#issuecomment-415503383 [External Link], so the sound bug will be soon resolved.

Quoting: x_wingMaybe a quick solution would be to create a steamplay forum on each windows-only game."
Again it already exists --> Winehq forum and WInehq Bugzilla

me and a friend who also using proton was unable to play street fighter IV online together, and also I couldn't connect online to Helldivers either, and Metal Gear Solid V won't connect online either.
You took example from games that are not yet whitelisted. All you have to do for the moment is to open an issue and wait.

I'm very impressed by Valve energy they invest in Steamplay and the positive results they already obtained: more than 1100 games available for Linux (and MacOSX now?) gamers.
That what it missed to Wine: a big enterprise that use their software to professionally improve its efficacy and development. Only a big enterprise like Valve could do that. Today developers that develop a game Steamplay compliant port can sell his game on three platform without develop three different port. It could be for them a money/time saving while touching more players. Perhaps in a near future the game could even be played on Android with Wine/Proton.
Another good news for us: same multiplayer feature for all platform. This is very promising.

Valve officially confirm a new version of 'Steam Play' which includes a modified version of Wine

Quoting: GuestI can see wine taking a place as the dosbox of many a game. I would imagine this possibility has occurred to Valve as well. If MS make older games difficult to run, a large portion of Steam's catalog disappears for Windows users. Wine is a good backup plan for that.

DxWnd....wonder if that'll work with Shadow of the Horned Rat.
You should give a try https://sourceforge.net/p/dxwnd/discussion/general/thread/2227213f/?page=1&limit=25#d2d9 [External Link]
But run DxWnd with Wine could need a lot of try and tweaks, good luck.

Quoting: lucifertdarkSince Valve brought us Steam play my list of Steam games playable in Linux has gone from 950 to 1400, I now have 75% of my Steam games playable in Linux with little to no effort on my part. To say I'm impressed is an understatement. :D
Is that playable, or installable? The games might not actually run.
And they were probably playable before through wine. Steam Play changed none of that, it just means more focus going forward of Valve supporting running games in Steam through wine.

Food for thought: might Valve try this on Windows at some point? Not all games built for XP will run on 10 I suspect.
The difference with Wine is that most Steamplay prefix are already work with only one click. For example, for dragon's origins I needed with Wine to install DLL or other tierce winetricks apps install. With Steamplay just launch the game, it works and that's a HUGE difference.

Wine code is already used by some Windows apps to launch Windows games that are no more compatible and don't launch on recent Windows version. For example, DxWnd. I even use this app to start old Windows games with Wine, this is great to play old game in full resolution (stretch with aspect ratio) or launch directx games < Direct 9 or games needs 256 colors etc..
Effectively, in the future Valve could use Proton for Windows games too that does not launch any more on recent Windows version.
Will Wine become the Java toolkit/Runtimes for multiplatform gaming?

With Steamplay it's more than 1100 games available for Linux gamers (and soon MacOSX users).
source: https://spcr.netlify.com/ [External Link] (completely stable and playable).
I kept only less than 10 games in my Wine Steam prefix that don't work (yet) with Steamplay.

Quoting: GuestIf they start allowing games with native Linux ports to be run under Proton anyway - how are the Linux porters supposed to know whether that was a "real" Linux sale, or a Windows sale thats being run on Linux via Proton... in other words, how do you stop this damaging legitimate Linux sales revenue that should go to the porters like Feral, Aspyr and VP ?
We are talking about Linux native ports that are not maintained or don't work anymore or Windows port has more features... If dev/editor maintained their port, Linux users will not need to use the Windows port, isn't it? Read the issue here:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/5638 [External Link]
there are several reasons to ask for this feature.

Quoting: PatolaThere was already a 4) by other user, so here it goes:

5) Do an improper cross platform build like Reality Pump Studios did with Two Worlds II: Call of the Tenebrae (it has no executable) and use the Linux port slot, effectively preventing steam play from being used. Actually even some games with "proper" Linux ports that are now broken / stopped working is possible, like this bug report [External Link] for steam client shows.
This issue will be resolved by Valve when you will have the possibility to launch a Windows port with SteamPlay, even if a Linux native port exists. I'm sure they will add soon this feature, it's a very wanted feature on the Proton github, because a lot of Linux native port are not maintained or/and don't work any more.

Looks like the fighting game Fantasy Strike may be heading to Linux

Our platform mess fighting game. I would like to buy a native Linux fighting game. I keep an eye on it.

Feral Interactive are teasing a brand new native Linux port

It would be great if Feral could update their games to use Vulkan. Another thing, I did read on Proton github that the Tom Raider 2013 does not run as good as on Windows and this people prefer to play it with Proton.
