Tekken 7 is on the Steamplay whitelist and it doesn't launch with Proton...Valve should verify his Whitelist before to publish it.

What is a dev/editor don't want his game to be playable on Linux? Could he ask Valve to remove SteamPlay compatibility to his game? This could be for several reasons:
- the game does not work well with SteamPlay and he fears that this gives a bad image to his game
- Microsoft or EA doesn't want theirs games could be played on another platform than Windows
- Dev/Editor fears than this give them more work for support.

For the Feral point, it could be interesting for Valve to acquire Feral and propose to games developers a new services:
port their games on Linux and MacOSX platform, via the Feral Way or the SteamPlay way.
Another thing, I talked in my last post about bad quality Linux native port or not maintained, someone opened an issue to ask the choice to use the Windows port with SteamPlay even if a Linux native port exists:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/386 [External Link]
That's a reality, sometimes Windows ports are better than Linux native port for Linux gamers.

This new feature (Steam Play) is very important for Linux Gamers: each time I try to play a Windows Game on Linux I have to tweak several hours before to play it, use this dll, ask for help etc...
Steam Play will make life easier for Linux players: less frustrating, you can play a game even if it is not available on your platform, and more important: one click to play! A lot of people don't want to lose time for tweaking, they just want to play game. Only a commercial enterprise could give you such a comfortable service on Linux.
When I read that "Linux native" is better, I'm not so sure about that. How many native games does not work anymore on Linux and you finally use the Windows port with Wine, because library symbol changed or doesn't exist anymore? I have several Linux native games the Windows version works better with Wine.
For the Wine sceptical, don't forget where Wine came from, this software borned on Linux and is 100% free code. It is now even used on Windows to launch old directx games that are no more compatible with recent Windows version. It is even ported on MacOSX and Android. We can be proud to use a platform that beget such a powerful software. And now, with Valve, Wine will become even more powerful and become a serious solution for game developers that have no time, skills or money to develop a Linux port. So games that should not come to our platform initially could be available and played by Linux gamers. Games devs could eventually plan to develop games compatible with Steamplay...It's not as ideal as native ports, I agree, but it's expanding the possibilities and that's what we need, expanding possibilities = more games available.
And who are the winners at the end? the Linux gamers.

Quoting: chancho_zombieNow we need better Net framework support, IMO a good chunk of the games that don't run it's .Net fault.Yes, same experience here: Batman, L.A. Noire...need .NET and today there are a lot of issue that block the install on 32 and 64 bits Wineprefix.

The compatibility list is far bigger than the whitelist, few of my windows games don't work with Proton.
A lot of windows games need a lot of tweak to run on Linux, but on Steam you install it and it just works!
Dragon Age, Assassin SCreed, Bioshock remastered, Need fo speed, Skyrim...
It's a lot of work to obtain this result, Steam team had work hard this last year (or more).
Wine team should be proud of what happened today, their product, a pure FOSS borned on Linux plateform, will help Linux users (even Macosx users) to play games with ease and comfort.
Less time to test and tweak game means more time to play.

First Steam Play game installed: Ultimate Doom installs and launches, no crash, no bug. It uses a dosbox with a steam overlay.
