Bound By Flame, an impressive looking action RPG now on SteamOS & Linux

Quoting: Guest@TheBoss: do you know if they plan to port some of their other titles?
Maybe we'll get Technomancer? For all its faults, and there are many, I enjoyed Mars: War Logs.

Who ported it? The original devs or a third party?

Basemark announced Basemark GPU Vulkan, a commercial benchmarking software

Excellent. Vulkan needs these tools to compete with DX12. Ideally, Vulkan's API will be clean enough, the tools will be comparable enough, and the performance will be competitive enough that a developer, even making a game solely for Windows, will have zero advantage in using DX12 rather than Vulkan. Then, if they decide to port their game to another platform, for whatever reason, they will be one step ahead since they won't have to translate DX12 to Vulkan.

GRID Autosport releasing for SteamOS & Linux on December 10th

What awful timing for me. I wait all this time for a legit racing game on Linux and when it does finally come out I'll already be playing Xenoblade Chronicles X and Fast Racing Neo on my Wii U. Had this come out a month ago, even a week ago, I'd have bought it instantly, but by Dec 10th I'll have way too much on my plate. Oh well, I'll get this sometime next year when it's 75% off.

Still no Linux version for Love For Sail, the best game in the series :(

GOL Asks: What have you been playing on Linux & SteamOS recently?

I've been playing Hard West, a damn good turn-based tactical game, and Vendetta: Curse of Raven's Cry, a pirate RPG that's quite clunky and cheesy in many ways that I'm nevertheless having a ton of fun with (being able to roam the seas on a man o war probably has a lot to do with my enjoyment factor).

Hard West, a weird-western strategy game released for Linux & SteamOS, some initial thoughts

I've been playing this game and I love it. I get the shadow flickering issue too, setting shadows to low helps the problem (it flickers far less often) but doesn't completely eliminate it. I've played through the initial scenario and am currently almost finished (I think) with a second one called Method in Madness. In Method in Madness you play an inventor trying to cure a madness in the land and on the overworld map you can choose to deeply explore areas or not. Exploring them often yields valuable items and can inspire your character to make inventions, but it also drives him deeper and deeper into madness, so it's up to you whether the rewards are worth the loss of sanity. It's a really neat mechanic. I've been playing for about 4 hours and haven't even finished the second scenario yet, so game length shouldn't be an issue unless some of the other scenarios are really short. I love the tone of the game and the rhaspy voice narration you get fits really well with the spaghetti western setting.

I'm doing an LP of the game so you can check it out in action if you want:

In this first episode I had shadows at max and you can see the shadow flickering a lot. In later episodes I turn it down and it doesn't flicker nearly as much.

Vendetta - Curse Of Raven's Cry Released For SteamOS & Linux

Quoting: feketenapSo is it worth checking out? It still sounds like a bad game overall...
Well, it's definitely not a great game. The on-foot combat is quite clunky, the character animations are stiff, much of the dialogue is of slash fiction level quality. On the plus side, the naval battles, while not as graceful as in AssCreed: Black Flag, are good of fun (especially once you get a better ship than the schooner you get at the beginning) and it's fun and refreshing, for me, at least, to play a pirate who's a straight up asshole, like a real pirate, not the romanticized Hollywood rough exterior but with a heart of gold bullcrap we usually get. Also, I'll give them points for some of the ambient sounds, particularly the bird sounds, they really make you feel like you're on a tropical island.

It's a very clunky game in many ways, but at least it's not horrifically broken this time, Not that I've seen so far anyway. It's not a game I could recommend to anyone with a clear conscience, but at the same time, I've played for over 12 hours since getting the game on Friday, I'm eager to play more, and I've been having a good time. There's fun to be had if you can get past how cheesy and clunky the game is in many respects.

Quoting: KeyrockDownloading my free update now.
Lucky you... I have sent them a request before 2 hours and still nothing.. :(
It's probably because I sent my request in almost a week ago, so they had time to process it. Hopefully you get your key soon.

Edit: Finished downloading and playing the game now. There's a spiffy new intro cinematic and I haven't noticed any missing voice acting like before, so that's good, otherwise it's exactly the same so far. They said they added a whole bunch more quests and fixed broken quests from before, but I won't know whether that's true until at least a few hours in. Here's hoping as before there were entire large areas with essentially nothing to do, like areas were made but they ran out of time to actually make things (quests, etc) to do in those areas. Hopefully those areas are now populated with people to talk to and quests to take.

As an aside, I hope they didn't fix females in the game peeing while standing up, that was hilarious, I'll miss it if it's gone.
