AMD Catalyst 15.9 Includes Some Really Needed Fixes For Linux Gamers, Releases Soon

I'm a Nvidia user and I'm happy about this. Maybe this is finally the start of AMD getting their **** together as far as their proprietary Linux driver? I'm not holding my breath, but I'll be very happy if this is a trend. I look forward to a day where I have a real choice when I choose to replace my outrageously overpriced video card years from now and I can choose Team Green or Team Red, rather than the current situation of "I'd be an idiot to not buy Team Green".

Looks Like Grid Autosport Could See A Linux Release Soon

Recent Linux kernels support most Logitech wheels, but Linux games rarely do. SDL2 provides a force feedback (or haptic) API, so it's up to the developer/porter to make use of it. I wonder if the Showdown port or the native Euro Truck Simulator 2 support force feedback at all on Linux.
ETS2 supports force feedback. At least for g25 the problem is with the drivers. There seems to be wip driver here https://github.com/edwin-v/linux-hid-lg4ff-next [External Link].
Did they ever fix the problem in ETS2 of wheels on Linux not centering correctly? Last time I checked (3 or 4 months ago) it was still broken. It's an issue that had been reported well over a year earlier and they never fixed.

Looks Like Grid Autosport Could See A Linux Release Soon

The thing about rubber banding, if true, is disappointing. I can't stand that in racing games, at least realistic racing games. In Mario Kart, okay I'm less peeved about rubber banding (still don't like it), but in a more realistic racing game (Autosport isn't a sim, but it's not fully arcadey either) it really pisses me off. If I'm driving well enough that I can smoke the rest of the field, let me smoke the rest of the field. Conversely, if I suck and make mistakes, don't let me artificially catch up. That said, I'll likely still get this unless miraculously a wild Project Cars appears before this releases, simply because we basically have nothing else (Dirt: Showdown doesn't count as a racing game in my book, at least not the type I'm looking for).

Ideally, a game would have an option to turn rubber banding on or off. That way, the namby-pambies can have their hand-holding tool to help them catch up, while real racers, like myself, could race for real.

Don't Count On Any EA Frostbite Powered Games On Linux

Hounding the guy on twitter is not the answer, it's not going to change his mind and it will just (further) sour his opinion of the Linux community. Make your point once, then leave the guy the **** alone. This is EA we're talking about, they will change their stance on Linux if and when, AND ONLY IF AND WHEN, it becomes profitable for them to invest in Linux. No way EA will be one of the trailblazers. For me, it's no big loss as I've completely stopped buying anything from EA several years ago, for reasons completely unrelated to Linux. Still, they put out some big popular games that others would like to buy, so them supporting Linux would be nice, if it happens eventually.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown Free Weekend & XCOM 2 Available For Pre-Order For Day-1 Release

Yeah, I'll pass on pre-ordering, thanks. I do look forward to getting the game, though, once I've read/seen plenty of reviews and have assurance it works fine on Linux, or, better yet, once I've played a demo.

The Source 2 Powered Dota 2 Reborn Exits Beta, Now Just Standard Dota 2

Quoting: Mountain ManI really can't understand why the game is so popular.
It's popular because it is highly competitive game with an extremely high skill ceiling. While the core concept of DOTA is fairly simple, the game has an almost endless amount of nuance. The sheer amount of heroes to play, skills to learn, and items to purchase create a mind-bogglingly massive amount of different interactions between effects that can be exploited to give your team an edge and used to formulate a strategy. It's an insanely deep strategic game that also requires split second decisions and good reflexes to be played at a high level.

A Review Of Gravity Platformer Airscape, Now Has Linux Demo

It looks like a good game with some interesting, though not unique, mechanics. Unfortunately it's in a genre that's pretty saturated at the moment and a genre that has typically not sold well, at least not in the last 10 or 15 years. Sure, there have been exceptions, a few games in the genre that have sold exceptionally well, but those games are just that, exceptions. Sometimes good games come out and fail, it happens, it has always happened. I consider Psychonauts to be one of the best games ever made, I am not alone in that opinion, the game was showered with praise around the time of its initial release. Yet it's a game that is famous for being a commercial failure.

Anyway, hopefully the game does get at least some more sales. It does look like a well made game and it sucks when good games fail to sell. That said, I have zero interest in playing a super hard platformer right now. And that, I think, is the crux of the problem. The majority of gamers don't want to play super hard platformers these days, it's a very niche market. A couple games transcending the market and selling exceptionally well may have given people the illusion that the market is bigger than it actually is.
