What are you playing this weekend?

Sadly, currently I mostly play on PS4 because of poor rig I have and technical problems with my Linux rig.
During last month I had plenty of time because I change the job starting from next month and I have a lot of holiday left and my girlfriend does not. So I play a lot, unfortunately mostly on other platform.
So lately I've finished:
- The Last of Us Remastered
- Nathan's Drake collection (So Uncharted 1,2,3)
- Tomb Raider (2013) (Which I've bought a moment before it was announced to be released on Linux...)
During this weekend I'll play:
- The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine
- Sleeping Dogs
The only games I play on Linux:
- Pillars of Eternity
- Don't Starve Together
Some time ago (on Easter sale?) I've bought Sleeping Dogs for 42 pln (less than 9 euro). I just started it and I can tell that game is decent, and it's really a shame that Feral ported it to Mac but did not port it to Linux. Hope it will be similar story as the one with Tomb Raider (2013).
Regarding technical issues on Linux I currently have:
1) I've finally made my dualshock 4 controller to work with Don't Starve Together in wireless mode. The problem is that it does not work correctly with Steam in big picture (from time to time overlay kicks in, in big picture sometimes controller starts to behave like y-axis is moved down, and in general it starts to be unusable)
2) I've received Magicka 2 copy from "Free Steam keys" forum topic and wanted to give it a try. It turns out that for some reason it does not launch with proprietary drivers I use (361.42), on nouveau driver I got less than 10 fps.
Last 3 months I've spent a lot of cash because we moved into a new flat with my girlfriend, so I cannot afford new powerful rig yet. And I don't own enough decent titles on Steam to force myself to invest in it.
I wait for Steam Sale to see if I can get something I am interested in. If I won't find it I will be focusing on PS4 for next month or 2.
I am eager to buy and play:
- XCOM2
- Hard West
- Divinity Original Sin
- SuperHot
- Pillars of Eternity: White March both parts (which was on GOG sale for really reasonable price, but I have PoE on Steam)
I am afraid that I will end up buying XCOM2 on PS4, which would be worst case scenario, because I want to give my money to Feral, but as long as I don't own the good rig, I cannot play it on Linux anyway. And I don't want to loose the mods support.
Let's see how it goes, at some point I need to switch to B2B anyway, so that would be great moment to buy new rig and finally enjoy good looking titles on our beloved platform.

Here's my own Linux OpenGL vs Vulkan test for Dota 2, not much difference for me

Anyway, now results seems fine :P.

Quoting: liamdawe@liamdawe that's what I love on this page - we're all humans and if you or someone else make a mistake, it is not removed from the comments (of course if author does not demand it), nobody is pretending that some comments didn't exist and author is perfect.Quoting: wojtek88Hmmm hd to 4k comparison got you weird results. 4 times more pixels to render and only like 2-5 fps less? For those seeing this comment, the tests had to be re-done. There's a greyed-out slider for graphical quality on Dota 2 that you don't really notice unless you go to advanced options. It changes when you change resolution.
The tests are correct as of this comment btw.
Anyway, now results seems fine :P.

A new benchmark video shows Dota 2 with Vulkan performing better on Windows than Linux

Quoting: liamdaweI actually see a point here. Your card is powerful and supported AFAIK. It means that you can do the benchmark of DOTA2 just to compare your results with his (I'm not interested in all modes he used, just the best ones from Windows (including Vulkan) and Linux Vulkan/OpenGL. I would be interested to see such a comparison.Quoting: devlandNo one is sensationalising anything. These are the facts. What are your thoughts, any theories?Vulkan is a new API. So far all performance tests yielded similar results. This was expected and is not news.
Please don't sensationalize the issue. Vulkan will get better in time as will it's implementation by game developers. :)
Quoting: rkfgFrom reddit [External Link]:I don't see the point, since I have a 980ti, not the 1080 that was tested. Totally different generation.
Maybe the Linux driver is still not perfect for the 1080 card?Liam, you have Windows and you can test the renderer yourself. 980Ti should be supported very well and this concern would be struck out.
From Phoronix, discussing the latest beta driver:
The NVIDIA 367.18 Linux driver doesn't explicitly mention any Pascal support for the new GTX 1070 and GTX 1080, but I believe that's in there too. The next driver release though should officially mention this new graphics card support.
So that suggests to me that the tested driver (not sure of the Linux version he used, I assume the latest stable) is not great for the 1080.

I've been saying it multiple times and will say it once again. What would make Steam Machines success? If they would do some great deals for the games while buying Steam Machine. For example:
You pay 749$ for an Alienware Steam Machine, but you receive for example 149$ back on Steam wallet, and you can spend it whenever you want on any game (Let's be honest, we all know that except Sales, games on Steam Store are overpriced).
Currently deal on Alienware Steam Machine offers:
If Valve does not want to just give money back, they could as well prepare fixed number of bundles that you can pick from. For example, buy Steam Machine and pick one (or few) bundles, in example:
- Valve games bundle (I've bought one a year ago)
- Saints Rows bundle
- Metro bundle
- Bundle that Alienware already prepared
- Feral ports bundle (Not all the games, but can be like Feral bundle 1, Feral bundle 2... etc)
- Indie games bundles (Indie games bundle 1, Indie games bundle 2... etc
and so on.
This would make people consider the platform, because let's be honest - people who consider Steam Machine mostly just want to play games, watch a movie and listen to the music. And having multiple interesting titles in the library is a must.
Let's take a look what XBox One and PS4 do - very popular starter kits are with 3 games, including best currently available title on their platform.
In May in my country (Poland) one of the stores offered PS4 + Uncharted 4 + Witcher 3 + Drive Club for 1599 PLN (in current exchange rate it is 360.95 euro).
Don't get me wrong, but for me choosing between Alienware Steam Machine for 749 euro with Payday 2 and games that I've never heard of and PS4 with Uncharted 4 + Witcher 3 + Drive Club for half that price isn't hard. And the choice is not the one that we all would like to hear here. Especially that currently, I cannot be sure that most of the titles were work great on Steam Machine, and on PS4 it is... acceptable :D.
So to sum up - Valve, Dell, Syber - please prepare some great games deals for all that decide to buy Steam Machines. It will make you and us happy.

Currently deal on Alienware Steam Machine offers:
We’ve included three free games: PAYDAY2 + DLC* (available in SteamOS in early 2016), Roller Disco Derby and Screencheat. Along with WARTHUNDER DLC, Brawlhalla DLC, and Coffin Dodgers demo. All worth over $200!That's fine, but I am not interested in this titles.

Liam, I have to say:
For the first time your article shows balls. Everything you wrote is true and most of it I already wrote on this page.
I know that all we currently have we have thanks to Valve, and I am very grateful. I just hope they will be more open and they will continue support of our beloved platform.

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut is having a free weekend and big sale on Steam

Anyway, my colleague really loves this game, so I don't want to have poor entertainment because of low graphical settings, so I will play this one after hardware upgrade.

Quoting: Stupendous ManI don't believe it's the Director's Cut that free to play, but the original version of Wasteland 2. I have no idea what the differences are, but people on the Steam forums say there are several differences. One most important difference for me is that Director's Cut brings controller support, including Dualshock 4 controller.
Quoting: omer666It is the only game in my library which has performance issues.I have very poor rig, so it is not the only one that has performance issues for me, but it is playable on minimum.

HITMAN looks like it's coming to SteamOS & Linux

But I can understand such a people, because last week I understood how such a thing may really make person angry. I had an internet connection outage for the whole weekend (Internet provider informed me that on their site everything is fine, have you tried to turn it off and on again didn't work, I have no access to software except admin panel which is piece of (insert 4 characters here, first one is 'S', last one is 't'). Long story short - I didn't have an internet connection).
And at this point I have decided to play Don't Starve Together with my girlfriend on LAN. And what was my surprise when it turned out that first Don't Starve Together had to login to the game, what was requiring internet connection. Honestly, I don't know if it was possible to play the game with some hack, but being unable to play it at first try this day made me resign from playing it for the whole weekend.
To sum up, I will buy the game with such a DRM, but I really can understand that some people won't.

Quoting: lucifertdarkI have to ask the people complaining about the always on thing, do you switch your internet connection off when you play a game? No? So what's the real problem?Let me start, that I am not a person who won't buy a game because of the internet connection requirement.
