DiRT Showdown Looks Like It's Getting A Linux Release
2 Jul 2015 at 6:19 am UTC

how did you install it ? Steam for windows then just wine 1.7.37 ? or are you using Play on Linux ?. Every time I install steam for windows on linux and then install a game it never runs or has an error message ?
I did it some time ago, but I used PlayOnLinux, when I'm back from work I can check witch libraries I had to install also.
As I said it's not wine 1.7.37 - I've tested DIRT 3 on versions above (1.7.38 and 1.7.41 if I remember correctly).

doesnt Dirt3 use games for windows live or something you need to register or sign into?
I have an impression that I read somewhere that it was removed (at least I do not have anything windows live related in game)

Of all the DiRT titles, this is the one I want to play the least, figures. Oh well, still cool it's possibly coming to Linux.
Same here, but maybe it's worth to say that DIRT 3 runs very well on latest wine versions (> 1.7.37)

Spec Ops: the Line is for 3.99 euro on Steam right now. If someone did not play this game yet, I guess it is good moment to buy it.

Looks Like Shadow Of Mordor Won't Support AMD Graphics On Linux At Release

@Keizgon
Vulkan isn't going to be a success story for Linux if people stick to toasters.
Good one :).
The baseless paranoia that SteamOS is out to kill Linux and rule them all
Second good one, especially because we discuss game based on a Tolkien's universe :).
But I have to say that I am affraid that at some point Valve will decide to stop support it's client on different linux distributions than SteamOS and their games will work only with up and running steam client. As You said - maybe it's baseless, but I have such a feeling.
I want AMD to survive because competition is a good thing
I totaly agree. Just to clarify - I have Intel + NVidia hardware and I have no interest in great AMD support on Linux except one thing - I do like to have a choice. And as you said - competition is a good thing for prices or evolution of technology.

Looks Like Shadow Of Mordor Won't Support AMD Graphics On Linux At Release

I have to say that worst case scenario comes true. All the steam machines have NVidia GPU (correct me if I'm wrong) and developers who cooperate with Valve are meant to make games work on Steam Machines.

Tux icon was changed to Steam OS icon for a reason. Developers won't be forced to make games work on Linux distributions - they will be forced to ensure that experience on Steam OS will be good. And what's more - I bet official Steam Machines with Steam OS will get support. If You decide to build Your own "Steam Machine" with Steam OS but AMD graphic - it may turn out that half of the AAA games do not run on your machine, because Your card is not supported.

@dubigrasu I made it possible to run the game thanks to @morbius post few minutes before You wrote Your answer, but anyway thank you for your advice. @mobius thanks for that information also.

At least it is good that VP guys stays in touch with users of their product.

I have already written it in the "Spec Ops: The Line Released For Linux, Initial Port Report Included" thread, but I will write it once again - from my point of view this game is must to have in Linux games library if Virtual Programming improve the port.

I have finished this game few days after it was released for Linux and I have to say that for me it was great time. The only problem was that I had serious drops (to 1 fps) on location changes.
Today I have decided to run the game once again and I was unable to even run it. It freezes in menu with 1 fps and it happened even after restart.

I believe that Virtual Programming employees learns a lot while working on Witcher 2, Bioshock and Spec Ops, but issue with Spec Ops persists for almost a month, and issues with Witcher 2 were not solved very fast either, so I'm affraid I have to agree with sentence written by @M@GOid:
"I'm praying to God that all of the others big names that will launch in the near future, like Grid, Batman or Witcher 3 will be out of the hands of these ..." (guys from VP)
It's sad, but this ports do not work very well yet...

And just to give you guys I guess important information - I have NVidia 540m and I use NVidia proprietary driver and I've increased Pool in the config file. So problems with this port are for sure not "AMD cards related".

GOG DRM Free Summer Sale Is Now On
7 Jun 2015 at 12:35 pm UTC

I'm also not a GOG person either, I build my games library on steam (it's not very impressive yet, because I work on it :) ). But I do have Witcher 2 EE on GOG, and Deponia 1 (I've spent 0.0 euro on Witcher 2 and 0.50 euro on Deponia).
With the recent activity of CD Project regarding GOG Galaxy and great Witcher 3, I've decided to give GOG a try (but of course Galaxy is not even confirmed for Linux unfortunately). Especially that CD Project and CD Project Red is a polish company, and I come from Poland :)
Anyway, I've decided to buy Deponia bundle (GOG handles bundles very well - if You have some elements from the bundle in your library - they just sell You other elements from the bundle with the whole discount - which is kind of great), Apotheon and Shadow Warrior 2013 (which is now on sale).
I guess I will even try to get the free Stalker: Clear Sky - It is Gold on Wine and it looks like I am going to spend more money on Summer Sale.

The Wine Development Release 1.7.44 Is Now Available
1 Jun 2015 at 8:39 am UTC Likes: 1

I have to say I'm impressed what wine can do this days. I have finished Witcher 1 Enhanced Edition on wine 1.7.x (with some minor bugs) and it was very smooth. Now I'm playing DIRT 3 and it works very well too. Some time ago I was playing Diablo 3, and quality was also very good.

I know that this is not Steam related topic, but I want to write small off-topic sentences. I have to say that in my opinion Valve should use PlayOnLinux to wrap some games that work very good on different wine versions and use PlayOnLinux in native steam client with some special marker (like SteamOS logo with small wine cup part for example). From my point of view if it would be seamless for the user but it would make "porting" of some titles to simpler, then why not to use this opportunity. Because let's be honest - some older games can have higher hardware requirements than on Windows and it will still be ok - right now Valve's main goal should be to create big library of big titles. Second step would be to convince big companies to use Vulkan API. It would convince more users to switch to Linux - and it would make this market more attractive to big companies.

Anyway, going back to wine - I'm waiting for DX10 support. This would make giant step forward. But having DX9 support with DX12 on the road makes wine not useable for newer titles. Hope guys from Wine development team will find a solution for DX10 and maybe even DX11 at some day.

And last thing - @mrdeathjr I am impressed with Your work. Whenever I wonder how does the game work on the wine I hope I will find Your movie on the Youtube. Hope You will continue this great work.

Spec Ops: The Line Released For Linux, Initial Port Report Included
19 May 2015 at 7:04 pm UTC

I just finished it either and I have to say it was really good time. I have to say once again that port is not great, it should be improved if Valve wants to take any benefits from this game. FPS drops to 1 FPS while changing area are very irritating. But still - I am very happy that this game was brought to Linux. If Virtual Programming improves this port, then I guess it will be must to have position in every Linux gamer library. Guys from this company still have to learn a lot, but I guess they will improve the port like they did with Witcher 2 port (at least I hope they will).
@jegmancs I do not agree that this game is certainly nothing like Battlefield, because except camera position I would say I see many similarities between Spec Ops and Battlefield 3.
Anyway, I definitely recommend this game, but not for 19,99 euro like it is right now. But I have to say that 3,99 on Steam was a great price, and I do not regret even 1 cent.
