Metro Exodus and Hellpoint in May's Humble Choice, along with a new subscriber discount

I'm two minds currently about this bundle. I found previous Metro games to be just ok, but my GF was crazy about them. She doesn't have the graphic card to run this one, though. Both Darksiders Genesis and Hellpoint have local co-op, might give us a chance to play something together, so far we haven't found something we both enjoy, other than few rounds of Tekken 7 from time to time.

I guess I'll wait and see what small games are bundled in May bundle and then let that be a tie breaker. A small indie game can often be a lot of fun.

I was thinking about buying this game during this discount, as my Steam library has grown quite thin during the lockdown, but after reading the previous comment, I've decided not to bother. I feel there should be more discounts soon, the publishers were holding out on deals hoping to make more money while people were forced to stay in their homes due to Covid. Once we can go out again, there will be more competition for our entertainment budget.

Played some smaller games this weekend, like Valiant Hearts and Blue Estate. Getting ready to start on Pray.

Considering we're going to have another 4 or more months of lockdown, I sure wish I find some more interesting games to pass my time, I fear boredom might make me lose my marbles this winter.

Got it on itch.io in that great bundle for racial justice. Couldn't get it to work on my Ubuntu 20.04 and gave up.

I got it in a bundle, but I can't say that I liked it, even though I'm a fan of TBS. Fighting system is very convoluted and you are constantly asked to make choices while knowing nothing about potential risks and rewards. I wouldn't call the game bad overall, but it's way less fun than it could have been.

The game is much better now, though I still wouldn't call it good. In this new Normal mode, you have three actions per turn, which give you a whole lot of new possibilities. Previously with just two actions, there was no point it trying to fight, you grab what you can and run away. And the stupidest thing, previously you couldn't organize inventory while making a stop between stages. The game was released way before it was ready and it is still missing more content.

Haven't played the game in seven years. It will be fun to give it another go after so long.

The trend of poor game selection continues. Not one true hit in a long time. It's been a year since I got a Monthly. Last year I got three months and I would have gotten one more if I knew all the games included.

Publishers and indie studios alike are no longer willing to cannibalize their long-term sales for the sake of quick gains. The era of great gaming deals has passed, sadly.

Quoting: brokeassbenThe system freezes are very random--sometimes happen while idle and with temperatures less than 40C. Tried underclocking just to give it a go and still had a couple of freezes.

Definitely sounds like Ryzen low power bug. As I said, if you have first or second generation Ryzen, find in EFI interface "Power supply idle control" and set it to "Typical Current Idle". AMD never admitted to this CPU errata, so Linux developers didn't fix it. Instead AMD reached to mobo manufacturers and they silently added this setting to the EFI interfaces. In Windows it was stealthily solved by tweaking the power management.

Quoting: furaxhornyx
Quoting: CatKiller
Quoting: brokeassbenI'm having frequent complete system freezes that require a hard reset and nothing I've tried so far is helping. Different drives, entirely different distros, updated the BIOS, tested RAM, and still freezing. Sooo damn frustrating.

Power supply is the next item on your checklist.

In addition to CatKiller suggestion, you may also want to try setting a fixed voltage for your CPU, closest to the "auto" setting. I remember having to do that on "cheap" motherboard, and setting a fixed value solved the problems for me. Might be worth a try. Also, check the CPU temperature, in these hot days ; you may want to try underclocking the CPU a little, and see if it improves stability.

More likely this is the infamous Ryzen power bug that affects Ryzen 1xxx and 2xxx processors. If these freezes or restarts happen when CPU is doing very little or idling, you're probably affected. In the kernel.log you should see something like this at the time of the incident:

Jun 19 19:31:21 Kassad kernel: [ 0.116004] mce: [Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged
Jun 19 19:31:21 Kassad kernel: [ 0.116004] mce: [Hardware Error]: CPU 1: Machine Check: 0 Bank 5: bea0000000000108
Jun 19 19:31:21 Kassad kernel: [ 0.116004] mce: [Hardware Error]: TSC 0 ADDR 1ffffae6eb6a6 MISC d012000100000000 SYND 4d000000 IPID 500b000000000

The solution is to find in EFI setting "Power supply idle control", usually it's somewhere in the advanced settings, depends on the mobo manufacturer. You need to change the setting from Auto to Typical Current Idle.
