Quoting: AnzaLicense doesn't prevent poor community management and it's not possible convert company to full open source contributor. Having license options out there helps ease the transition though. This is what I was pointing out recently about log4j. People pointed out terrible thibgs in the code years ago... but no one wanted to fix it until exploits popped up.

People are comparing it to the amount of games on Steam, but they should be comparing it to how many actually have working game pad support, and how many just wouldn't play well on the Deck (like some of the grand strategy games)
Can't wait to get mine! Anyone know what the shipping times are like once you pay for it?

Quoting: CatKillerMy thoughts on tge matter are that if you consider this as the amount of titles available in the first quarter of a launch for a console, that is insane. If you consider the ratio of games on Steam that are good vs games that are worthwhile to play with a gamepad, this is also insane.Quoting: GuestBoth things are true: they need to increase the quality of their testing, and they need to increase the rate of their testing. And the former is the more important of the two, as you say. Luckily, game testing is very parallelisable with sufficient funding.Quoting: Purple Library Guy2000 is a nice big number. But I still think they need to speed it up a tad, because it's still a drop in the bucket of all the Steam games, and it's still barely keeping up with the new games being released. It would be positive if they made games compatible even faster. But I believe that their current speed is already very impressive. I'd rather have the quality of their evaluations high than have them hurry up quickly.
Plus I still think we need a fourth category, for games that actually, you know, don't work at all. One third of the games checked are listed as "unsupported", which looks kind of bad and as Liam notes probably doesn't reflect the reality of a lot of games--people will mostly look at "Unsupported" and assume it's not even worth trying.

Quoting: drlambI can't stop touching my DECK either. In bed, at the airport, or even in the public library...I just can't stop. My girlfriend is jealous and my friends have all blocked me for "too many unsolicited DECK pics," whatever that means. :tongue:Unfortunately I am still DECKless.

Quoting: randylIn the case of webkit, it sure would be nice if the Gnome devs would take the Safari / Apple improvements and make it a better browser. Firefox is getting terrible. Though Epiphany would then need a Windows / Mac port too.Quoting: GuestOne concern I have with patches being pushed to corporate forks rather than upstream wine is the situation we had with KHTML and WebKit, where Apple managed to hijack the project. Wine is licensed under LGPL rather than GPL which was the exact same situation with KHTML. LGPL allows you to add proprietary components later as well, and then slowly change license by changing part by part into different licenses as you replace the code.Apple didn't hijack anything. That's how the license and forking works. Upstream is free to pull from a fork as well. People are free to use the fork or the original project. Sometimes that works out poorly for the original project, but there are reasons for that (see Open Office vs Libre Office).
Licenses work exactly how they're written, not how people feel the "spirit" of it should work. Every license has its strength and weaknesses. This is a good pull request that both Proton and the WINE project can benefit from.
Ubisoft Connect on Steam Deck guide with SD Card access

Though I think Odyssey is a recent addition. They have been releasing them exclusive to Uplay... UbiConnect... whatever they are calling it this month... like changing the name magically doesn't make it crap...
Guess they would rather try and keep the 30% until they make enough to pass it off to Steam?

Quoting: AppelsinAgreed.Quoting: slaapliedjeUbisoft needs to just get over themselves like EA have, and release the newer Assassin's Creed games on Steam...Funny thing is, they only recently stopped releasing on Steam. E.g. assassins creed odyssey is on steam, but not Valhalla.
Either way, both of them should get over themselves and release the games *properly* on steam, I.e. game sans stupid EA/UC client. Buuuuuut the clients are probably for our benefit, to enhance the game experience, if I’m not mistaken 🙄

I was shocked when Pools of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor just worked out of the box with the CD check. I don't think it will even work on Windows 10.

Quoting: CatKillerNot all of them: the GPD boss went on a public rant about how the Deck was terrible because it couldn't run pirated games. I think he was feeling rather threatened by it.Haha, what? Besides, why couldn't you run pirated games on the Deck? Removing the copy protection generally makes it easier to run things.

Quoting: areamanplaysgameDidn't we hit just over 2%? It's funny that people keep saying 'OMG, only like 2%!' but when you factor in the total amount of video game players on the planet... that 2% becomes A LOT! And (yeah I know this is said every time) with how trash Windows 11 is... hopefully we grow to 3-5% with the Deck and get more users overall.Quoting: Super-GI don't get why Valve is accepting this. What are they supposed to do about it, exactly?
Quoting: Super-GThe games are key to the success of Proton and the Steam Deck. It should be a requirement for anyone distributing on Steam that they not hamper technologies developed and promoted for the platform. This is probably not a hill they want to die on just yet. Linux users still account for barely over 1% of Steam sales, I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this). Hopefully the Steam Deck will help move the needle, but until that proves true, we don't have a lot of bargaining power and Valve still owes a good experience to the overwhelming majority of their users who are still on Windows.
