Huh, they may want to change their system requirements a bit. Says it requires a 64-bit processor and operating system... then lists Processor: Pentium 4 2ghz and AMD AthlonXP 2400... problem is, not all Pentium 4s at 2ghz have 64bit extensions.

Quoting: Marlockany Baldurs Gate series, any Icewind Dale series and any of the classic Fallout games (the isometric RPG ones) coming to Linux are an instant buy for me.

I still have the original media for a few of them from my windows days, so I can totally run them via Proton, wine or GemRB, but having them as native linux titles is something I just feel compeled to support!

Have I become an Ilinuxthid thrall?!

ps: what happened to Icewind Dale 2 on Steam?! whyyyyy only windows on GOG?! it's my favourite series by far, this just breaks my heart!
Funny enough, they dropped the name of Baldur's Gate from the New Dark Alliance game... as well as dropping the fun...

Quoting: PhlebiacI loved this game on Playstation 2 back in the day; I seem to remember there was not only a direct sequel, but also another that didn't use the Baldur's Gate name... must have been Champions of Norrath, although there was also Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.

Yeah, these all need to be re-released, and with working network support again (even though people HAVE figured out network support for a lot of old Playstation 2 games, Champions of Norrath specifically one that does not work again.

Linux Mint 20.3 'Una' gets a Beta release

With this release you're getting Kernel 5.4, a packaging base of Ubuntu 20.04
That seems really weird. Most Ubuntu 20.04 users are going to be on 5.11 already because of Hardware Enablement. If you're going to go through the effort to make a new downstream release based on that, why wouldn't you pick up the newer supported kernel from upstream?
I kind of thought Mint stopped using the Ubuntu kernel some time back because Ubuntu had done something that no one agreed with (can't recall the details) so they offer the Ubuntu kernels, but install their own?

But that would be my guess of why they are using 5.4. Too many people concentrate on what version of the kernel the distribution uses without realizing how much the distributions patch qnd change their ker els to support new hardware, and tweak features. It is not a 1:1 to kernel.org.

Quoting: ArdjeAnd here I am, waiting for wayland support on my second seat. I don't care about my first, because I use that one for my DJ equipment.
I was going to try out Wayland with the new drivers, but can't figure out how to get the option to pop back up in gdm on Debian Sid, it used to be there. Oh well. It'd probably be like when I test out KDE and it decides my icons and mouse cursor should be changed to KDE's when I go back to Gnome...

Yeah, when you see DRM support in the Kernel you have to cringe. But it is the good DRM, not the bad one.

Anyone know if they added Secure Boot yet? Would make it simpler to install on all the things.

7 Days to Die gets Alpha 20 out in Experimental, lots of shiny new additions

Every time I play this, I run into a show stopping bug. Last time it was whenever I'd get near the Trader's door, it'd teleport me away...

Do find it amusing that it's an Alpha / Early Access, yet it's on the Playstation Store...

Quoting: RedfaceNeither Debian or Ubuntu use the packages build by the Debian developers so your statement about that Ubuntu is stable because of the packages build by developers makes no sense.
The stability of a distribution comes from the release management, build procedures and QA, all of those Ubuntu does independently of Debian.
Wtf? Of course Debian and Ubuntu use the packages built by Debian developers...

FFS.
That's not true anymore for some years now.

https://wiki.debian.org/SourceOnlyUpload [External Link]
Ha, that's semantics. The developers still have to make the debian directory stuff initially. Me, as a debian user, download packages built (designed) by the Debian maintainters and packaged by the build server. Which is what I was trying to say. There are automated build processes in place.

For the most part, you can't just drop a tar ball onto the build server and expect it to always do the right thing. And even then, they still have the process of uploading such things being vetted for DFSG compliance, etc, right?

FFS. I've been a Debian user for far longer than Ubuntu has existed. I've looked into all the things for becoming a Debian maintainer at some point. Anyhow, guess this conversation really isn't doing either of us any good.

The topic at hand, if Ubuntu wants some feedback? Fix snaps. Make snaps not a central dependency upon Canonical to function, and release sources for the store. Curate the apps in snapstore better as well.

Also, stop being so 'Not invented here.' driven. Actually add to the programming pool of other projects. This has always been people's complaints. Microsoft at some point (not sure if it's still true) has actually committed more code to the Linux kernel and some other projects than Canonical have.
