Quoting: slaapliedjeAnyone else install some plugins, and then have issues with it loading with Vulkan (I guess it's the default). It seems to sporadically hang, though mostly after a fresh reboot. OpenGL remains working fine though (although still hangs). This was only after installing some plugins.
Vulkan has been giving me issues from the beginning. Mostly it just hangs before the menu screen (although sounds keeps playing). Deleting the Steam Vulkan shader cache for the game makes it move on. But at the next start it will hang again. Although lately even deleting the shader cache didn't make it start. Bun OpenGL is fine.
Yeah, mine works on the first time after a fresh boot, afterward I have to use OpenGL, some sort of memory leak? Corruption of shader cache?

I'm not sure this is actually correct, or at least, entirely correct. I mean, sure, lots of people do use Discord for gaming voice chat, don't get me wrong, but it's also much more than that: it's basically a place for lots of communities to hang out and asynchronously communicate.

If Discord were just voice chat then yes, it'd be relatively simple to replace with any of the other alternatives out there (other than the whole "network effect" and getting everyone to settle on an alternative), but it's really a lot more than that for some people and I don't know, off the top of my head, of a replacement that exactly covers all its use cases. That's the real issue for people looking for alternatives.
Well that's the thing - those of us that have been around (online) for a while will remember the days of ICQ / AIM / IRC / MSN Chat / Yahoo! Chat / whatever, when everyone used such services heavily... Then almost overnight, they died (largely the big companies got all worried about their legal liabilities, due to idiots hitting-up kids in chat).

Granted some of these services are still around, but they're ghost towns and the few users they still have are almost always bots, scammers or people who simply refuse to give in to changing trends. The same can be said of the "alternatives" to these early chat services, that have popped-up over the years.

I always thought that closing all these chat services en-masse was a dumb idea and I think a great big void was left... In my opinion, Discord has gone some way to filling that void for many people.
IRC will always be around! Though it doesn't exactly have voice / video.

I mean, sure, lots of people do use Discord for gaming voice chat, don't get me wrong, but it's also much more than that: it's basically a place for lots of communities to hang out and asynchronously communicate. Lots of games have Discord servers (I'm in the ones for Filament and Noita, for instance), where people chat and share ideas/hints/discussion/help/artwork/what-have-you (I've gotten a ton of help modding Noita from other modders in the server, for instance). There are Discord servers for programming languages (I know of Python and Rust, I'm sure there are others), even a small web-comic I follow has a(n official) server for discussions. I also use it for communicating with family back home across the Pacific and (text) chatting with friends.

Yeah, what I meant wasn't that Discord was only used for gaming voice chat, but that instead of using in-game voice chat, or steam voice chat, they use Discord's voice chat. For sure, I'm in a few communities around things, one of which is the Atari VCS Founders group, and never once used the voice chat features for any of them. We use Discord for the voice chat though for our Valheim server.

Is there any reason why people don't use it? (Granted I know not everyone here uses Steam, but it's a good chance that if you are a gamer, you have Steam installed).
Doesn't Steam hold the biggest marketshare for PC gaming? That makes the fact that it's so under-used even more ludicrous...
To be fair, they don't advertise it at all. I mentioned it to room at work, and pretty much no one knew it existed.
I'm not sure why they don't really let people know. I know it took a long time for them to have chat, and then add the voice, but I do find it odd no one uses it.

A while ago when developer pulled the game from itch.io he said he needs to rely on Steam services for NAT traversal.
Seems to be an odd reason to limit it to Steam. I'd think that'd be fairly easy to do outside of it... Then again, I'm not a dev!

Quoting: ShmerlDevelopers keep deleting the suggestion to release the game on GOG without even commenting (from here [External Link] ). Such attitude doesn't look good to me so I don't expect them to do anything positive about it since they don't care. I'm skipping this one.

Quoting: CybolicI had completely forgotten that "The Offering" didn't include the expansion soundtracks!

Since I originally played through Quake from that very release, I'm now wondering if I didn't get the full experience and need to go back and play the expansions with their real soundtrack. I do remember thinking that some of the tracks were odd choices for some of the expansion levels (at the time, I didn't know they had their own soundtracks).
Ha, sort of along this subject...

The other night I was watching some random youtube videos, and ran into one called 'when the Doom music kicks in.' as a meme. But then as I started watching it, I full on expected the original Doom music to start, as it's bad ass. But then it was whatever noise they put into the new Doom... I was disappointed....

Quoting: ShmerlWaiting for their GOG release, which should happen after their success, no doubt. Or should it?
Probably it won't happen, for Linux. As GOG games usually depends on GOG client for multiplayer and that is like the real deal of the game, until an official GOG client on Linux happens (never) chances are pretty much zero.

Good thing we have Steam though. Fully supports the OS of our choice.
This doesn't use any of the steam multiplayer stuff. Not sure why it'd need GOG's for that.

This game is a (use whatever expletive you're comfortable with). Been playing it way into the wee hours of the morning lately. But last night we finally went on a hunt for a swamp to get some iron... and found a small chunk of swamp where we died over and over again by Leeches, Draugr and Blobs of slime...
