I started playing Iratus, and I had sort of liked the other game like it (of which the name currently eludes me) but that other game seemed to have a bit more flavor to it? Iratus is almost exactly the same, except you play the villain, and instead of hiring adventurers that inevitably die, you just create new creatures from body parts you collect from slain enemies. So it doesn't seem as heart wrenching when you lose someone. Maybe that is just me though.
If you liked the other game though, you will probably like Iratus.

Happy hour has arrived at bar GOL with the Wine 5.8 release and it's a real corker

I do wish CiderPress would be fully lorted to Linux, so I wouldn't need a windows VM to copy files to my compact flash card I use on my Apple IIGS.

Quoting: CatKillerHa, yeah I was going to same thing.Quoting: TheSHEEEPI prefer cider, personally. But we don't really have that as software.TransGaming's proprietary "Wine for Apples" was called Cider.

Quoting: MnolegThe game I had some fantastic fun with recently and probably the most just pure joy I have had in a long long time playing a video game?Quoting: rustybroomhandleHeh, don't take this too seriously, but I find the tag "NSFW" amusing. Are there any games that are "safe for work"? I imagine even Candy Crush would get you in trouble.Once I played the Zork trilogy via Frotz [External Link], It was an amazing blast from the past. I look forward to another idle period to continue with Enchanter.

Quoting: chrisqAlso not what I said. I said there are definitely those that I know that I no longer communicate with, that are perpetually stuck at 15. This happens frequently with heavy drug users. It is known. But really, so many don't develop much beyond their high school personalities. Has nothing to do with my environment.Quoting: slaapliedjeNo, that's not what I said at all.Quoting: chrisqAh, so you see my point. Most people are sadly morons. Well, okay I will take a line from the great philosopher, George Carlin. "Think about how stupid the average person is. Then realize half the world are stupider than that!"Quoting: slaapliedjeLet's be fair, most of us are still 15 trapped inside older bodies.I've heard this before, and if this is not a joke I truly feel sorry for the people that feels this way. Most of the people I knew at 15 were morons that knew nothing about life or the world, myself incuded.
The 'mature' and 'adult' thing to do is admit it!
Liking a few of the same things at 15 and 35 does not make you a 15 year old trapped in an older body. Things like gaming, sports and movies can be enjoyed all through life, but normally experienced differently and preferring different genres.
There are definitely, out of the people I used to call friends, that never really evolved past the 15 year old stage, and really are not the kind of people I would talk to now.
Look at how many people are falling for the Flat Earth thing... I rest my case.
I said 15 year olds are morons compared to what they are when they grow up.
If that is not the case in your experience, then a change of environment might be a good idea.

Valve drops support for SteamVR on macOS to focus on Linux & Windows

This is from someone who has had VR since the first Vive was being shipped. I also have the Vive Pro. It is a good headset, especially for viewing movies, the deep blacks and colors are great. But the Index wins on being able to read things a bit more, and the wider FOV is very nice!
One day I was testing between the two, and the feeling of having binoculars strapped to your face is far more obviouse with the Vive Pro.
But having sensors at the edge of your room that don't require cables to your PC is far nicer than Occulus, which you need three camera set up from what I understand to get the same tracking.
The Quest is a different beast though and if I recall is based on an accelerometer, and does not track your hands as well?

Quoting: PraxachTrust me, you will want those sensors, also the Index is basically king. I refuse to give Facebook money.Quoting: ageresNo that does not support anything. it is a complete standalone system. (https://www.oculus.com/quest/ [External Link])Quoting: PraxachThe wife got an Oculus Quest last week and now she wants to see what we can do with a PC powered VR system. I didn't want to buy one only to find out that it wasn't going to be supported in the future.I thought Oculus doesn't support Linux. Does it?
It is really nice since it is portable and you don't need the stands in a room to use VR. Games are short and expensive, but I think that is the same for any VR system right now. You can side load apps on the system so you can bypass the Oculus (facebook) store to purchase apps for the device.
I really hope valve takes a look at the Quest and comes up with a way to do a similar setup so you don't need to have the sensors in the room.

The reason those things is there is not to say they would only be for non-infantile people, but so that dumbass parents who won't consume the product first before passing it for their kids to watch.
I laughed the other night as I started to watch Extraction on Netflix. Its warning was 'strong bloody violence throughout, language and brief drug use" doesn't even use proper commas, but the movie didn't disappoint!

Are there any games that are "safe for work"? I imagine even Candy Crush would get you in trouble. To nitpick on other strongly established terms, I find the common usage of "mature" highly offensive to language and original meanings of words. Things tagged "mature" are more often than not some of the least mature (non-infantile) things out there. And I would really like to search for mature (non-infantile) content sometimes. But I do not have the words for these searches. "Adult" and "mature" are taken. "Grownup" or "non-infantile" or "non-childish" don't sound too promising.

With the very strong rumor (not sure they have officially announced anything?) That Apple is going to be switching their macbook pro line over to their own ARM processor, why would Valve continue to support what is in essence, a dead platform? As their specific need is to support x86.

Quoting: subI hope nobody is happy about a different platform gets support (partially) cut.I am more happy that Valve sees the reason in not supporting a company that supports any sort of open development.
Yet, what I like about that news is that Valve being clear about ending support
instead of letting it die silently and communicating it.
Should this be the fate of Steam for Linux in the future (I wouldn't rule it out),
I hope they'll communicate it that clearly as well.

Lenovo are to start shipping Fedora Linux as an option on their ThinkPad laptops

On the other hand, last night I installed Pop_Os! 20.04 and it works great! Two improvements need to be made to it though (and any Ubuntu flavor). For the love of god, they need to add RAID/LVM abilities to the installer... second, they should have the tweaked .desktop file for firefox, so touch screen works out of the box, like it does on Fedora.
Only thing that does not work on my Thinkpad is the fingerprint reader, which apparently needs a kernel driver for. But it at least is being worked on.
Pop_OS also has a neat little thing they added under Power near the gnome settings so you can actually set your GPU setup right there (requires a reboot) setting to either Intel, Hybrid, nvidia.

Quoting: ShmerlI have Thinkpad P52. Comes with hybrid graphics, Quadro P3200 and Intel whatever. It worked fine in Fedora, you just have to install the repo for the nvidia drivers.Quoting: HamishI made sure my brother got a ThinkPad with an Intel IGP for that exact reason.Today there are Thinkpads with Ryzen+Vega APUs, and they work very well with upstream kernel. Zen 2 based ones are coming out soon.
