You may want to hold off on Linux Kernel 5.3 and systemd 243 if you use a gamepad

I'm running Debian Sid here, and only have systemd 242 and kernel 5.2.9. Just tested the Steam Controller. Don't have uinput loaded, but it still worked in Atari Vault.

Fantastic looking beat 'em up Shing! confirmed to be releasing for Linux

Quoting: tuubiWasn't a customizable, modular design in the plans originally? I remember reading about that before the original Steam Controller launch.
Maybe they did. It doesn't change the fact that I still want it xD
Pretty sure you could just design whatever you want and put it in place. Maybe I'll try to do something for a 'real' D-pad. Someone already makes some little joystick like things for the right touch pad.

They sort of work

While not on Linux officially, Far Cry New Dawn seems to work amazingly well on Linux

I couldn't seem to get Far Cry 5 to work, so I've been doing the unthinkable and rebooting into Windows to shoot at cult-rednecks.

Looks like Beyond a Steel Sky, the sequel to the classic Beneath a Steel Sky is coming to Linux

Quoting: ShmerlInteresting. I'd recommend playing the original if you are a fan of cyberpunk genre. I hope they plan GOG release too. Check also the comic that comes with the game (GOG release has it).

And if you didn't know, you can do this (on Debian at least) ;)

sudo apt install beneath-a-steel-sky
Of note, you can also do
sudo apt install drascula flight-of-the-amazon-queen lure-of-the-temptress
For more scummvm / adventure game goodness in Debian.

Nice, gives me a reason to finally sit down and win the original. Been meaning to. The other one of theirs that I've been wanting to win is Lure of the Temptress.

Quoting: CybolicI've started working on a companion program for the X52 MFD since the only one I've found so far is Windows-only.
I'm pretty new in Elite though, so I'm having trouble figuring out what information to actually display and what might be useful.
If anyone wants to discuss this, let me know :)
Awesome! So there is one thing you have to do in Windows for the X52, enable the clutch button. That way you can use it for thruster boost.
That's named button 30 on my joystick and should already be mappable in Elite. What sort of issue are you having with it?

Quoting: slaapliedjeBut I'm not sure about the MFD. Would be interesting if you could integrate it into having a clock for mission time or something. I play in VR though so actually looking at the MFD is kind of hard for me.

Edit: the packaged libx52 does have a mfd tool, I was playing with it at one point in time, but it's not a graphical one by any means.
I'm not sure either, but it seems a waste not to use :) Currently, I have it showing my commander name, ship name and dock/system on page 1 and ship name, ship type and fuel amount / capacity on page 2, but I'm sure there are more useful things that could be shown.
I'll see if I can figure out parsing the mission time.

Edit note: What I have cobbled together so far uses the x52pro-linux package by nirenjan, so that's probably the same tool (`x52cli mfd`, right?); I've just added pagination, line scroll, button mappings and reading the Elite data.
That is amazing! I'm not sure what Windows is doing, It puts it into some sort of modifier button mode unless you set it up in the joystick control panel. Probably doesn't affect Linux use at all, since it just reads it as button 30 as you said. So most likely as default in Linux it's fine. It's referred to as the 'clutch' button in Windows.

When you're ready to share the code for the mfd, I'd like to check it out!

Does seem that the debian package was really last updated in 2015. But the homepage of the developer listed on the package page is dead. http://plasma.hasenleithner.at/x52pro/ [External Link] Guess I could ping the maintainer of the Debian package and see if they'll update it, since that git looks like it's been updated since 2015.

The Humble RPG Bundle seems like a really great deal for Linux gamers

Quoting: slaapliedjeHa, I wish I had less games and more concentration to have beaten Pillars of Eternity before moving onto other things. But yeah I already have both of those. In fact I think I have most of those on the list already.
I remember a time long ago when I carefully selected games before buying them.
They were expensive and sales as we know them today simply did not exist.

What sounds like a great turn of things, isn't one I dare to say.

I had at most two games I played over many months and typically they were LOTS of fun.
That inflationary stream of content, sales and bundles killed it for me. :/
Partly blame it on me, as I couldn't resist this highly optimized marketing and selling machine.

Similar to the lowered attention span that many people gained today, I switch games fast.
Playing a bit here, testing another buy there, rarely getting attached to anything anymore. :/
Yeah, I don't ever get around to playing one long enough to win it, but I try. Can't remember the last game I beat.

Playing DOSBox games on Steam for Linux just got better with another release of Boxtron

By the way, Boxtron rules for MIDI playback, and especially sounds awesome with Doomand Star Wars: Dark Forces. Specifically I have a Roland SC 88 Pro and Roland UM-ONE mk2.
