I was trying to play assassin's creed origins the other day, and some had given it a Platinum rating... then went onto list some tweaks you had to do, but didn't really describe how to do them (I think it was 'disable Uplay overlay' I was onto doing something else at the time, so didn't test it. But that should make it a Gold rating.

Quoting: jensInteresting, anyone try it in VR? With a Vive Pro? Would be nice to get a 'Platinum' rating. I think some people misunderstand the ProtonDB (and hence WineHQ) ratings. Platinum means you can install it and have no issues, and not have to do ANY work around.Quoting: slaapliedjeActually with some manually work ED runs pretty good on Proton 4.2.Quoting: jensI wish, the launcher uses some .NET stuff, from what I understand and no one has been able to get it to work under Wine. Though I haven't checked in a while with Proton. I'd definitely spend more time playing it if I didn't have to reboot into Windows though!Quoting: slaapliedjeDo you play ED on Linux in VR? Care to explain what is all needed? I don't have a VR set, but had the honor at a friend of mine, though that was on Windows. I've kept an eye on VR since then but haven't found any good info what the current state of VR on Linux is.Quoting: GuestThis is the wide blue ocean where PC belongs. No, it's probably not cheap. Then again, PC has never been cheap.Ha. While playing Elite Dangerous it makes me feel like it is part of the life support system keeping me alive.
I saw a PSVR in the Best Buy the other day and almost laughed. $350 for THAT???
If only they could get rid of that damned umbilicus! Nothing breaks presence faster than that little snake crawling up your back. What happened to the VIVE Wireless Adapter cobra-looking thing?

The Linux-powered Atari VCS has gone through some design changes

They were very innovative for the time, but they also had the problem of quick oxidation on the contacts, so they'd be sitting in the console for a month, then they'd stop working unless you took them apart to clean them regularly. Fortunately there have been new membranes made to fix that issue. I should find time to play mine more... but then I keep getting all these new Linux games coming out!

Quoting: CFWhitmanThe pack in controllers were the first available analog controllers out there (at least as far as I'm aware). No, they did not automatically center, so when you're playing something like Donkey Kong or Dig Dug, you have to get used to moving it back to the center to stop moving. As someone I work with said, 'I think they were made for Star Raiders, and nothing else was ever tested.' They do work wonderfully in Star Raiders, and a few other games.Quoting: slaapliedjeWere the controllers perpetually non-centering? I had always thought that they must be like the PC joysticks from back then, with a switch to change between being centering or non-centering. However, I never actually saw a 5200 in person, only in advertisements. Our next system after the 2600 was the NES.Quoting: GuestThen the controllers will be non-centering.Quoting: inlinuxdudeREPORT JUST IN: You'll have to wait until 5200!Quoting: tmtvl2600.... I see what you did there.... at least they're not waiting until 5200, amirite?Quoting: EikeThe Linux-powered Atari VCS is not changing design, core hardware or peripherials anymore and instead will be on the shelves next week. - Nobody, everHey, you'll regret those words when it's finally released... in 2600.

The EU is going after Valve and others for "geo-blocking", a statement from Valve
6 Apr 2019 at 5:49 am UTC
I know, first world problems.
6 Apr 2019 at 5:49 am UTC
Quoting: GuestGeoblocking has been rife across the entertainment industries for years. I hope it won't end here and that Hollywood is next. Somehow I doubt it because, as we have seen from the Copyright Directive, the EC is up Hollywood's arse.Yeah, the one that gets me is they stopped releasing the 3D version of movies in the US, so I have to import them from UK if I want them.

The other issue I have ran into is that it will wipe out the game and completely redownload it.
Basically if you have a steam library set up in Windows, then share that with Linux, it redownloads all the data of games you have installed. Same happens again when you go back into Windows.

Sidequestion: Did anybody managed to get the game Deadpool working? Unfortunately there is no entry in the Protondb for it.
