SteamOS has nothing to do with Ubuntu
They are both Debian based. And SteamOS is based on exactly the same versions UbuntuLTS is based on. I am pretty sure SteamOS is more or less Ubuntu for all intends and purposes... Well it does not have the same desktop theme, i give you that...
Someone else probably already said this, but Ubuntu being based on Debian and SteamOS being based on Debian does not equate to SteamOS being based upon Ubuntu LTS. Steam is currently (if I recall) based on Debian Jessie and is in beta for the Stretch base. There are a LOT of differences between Debian and Ubuntu. Ubuntu tends to compile experimental drivers into their kernel for one.

Ubuntu's procedure is every 6 months they pull a bunch of packages from Debian Testing, build them up and test them for a month of that then release. But because of that, there are certainly a lot more bugs that creep into Ubuntu.

Valve rebasing on Debian was a good move, since it gives them a much more stable platform to develop upon, and they do some kernel tweaks and pull in newer drivers.

Ha, that was the name of that game! I actually thought it was a decent RPG with sex elements. Granted it's not like Gerald doesn't get laid in the Witcher series...

I'm using Steam from https://negativo17.org/steam/ [External Link]
Curious, I thought Steam was in Fedora's repo, any reason to use an outside one? (I have a strong hatred for using third party repositories, which is why I tend to stick to Debian because they package about everything under the sun!)
As far as I know Steam is included in rpmfusion, but not directly in Fedora, though I somehow prefer the repositories from negativo17.
Ha, that's why I always kept going back to Debian. There was a point in time (pre-RPM fusion) when there were so many conflicting repositories for Fedora/CentOS that I just gave up.

Quoting: slaapliedjeHa, that got overly political fast...
Yes, but it's educational and interesting, for offtopic discussions anyway.
Ha, that's like one of the facebook groups I'm on, the group is supposed to be about being a game master. Then someone brought up gender politics and it became a shit show. Seriously keep that stuff outside of the gaming table people... If someone brought that up in the middle of one of my games, I don't care which side they're on, I'd kick 'em out. It's like defecating and watching porn, the two things don't belong together, so stop one or the other....

Back more on topic of the video with Richard Garriott. I think that was a very great lesson in online gaming.. no matter how cool you make the world for your players, there will always be a large portion of them that are just murder hobos.

System76 reveal the Thelio, their new custom-built Linux desktop with three versions

Oh, oops!well okay if you skipped your mass storage being SSD instead of being Spindle then it was 76k. Still, that is one massive (and massively expensive) machine. A good chunk of that price is in getting the 4 Titan V cards, which if I recall are just overly expensive non Ti performing RTX 2080s?

Edit: oh these are the new ones with 12gb of ram and are 3k a piece... so only 12 thousand dollars in video cards alone...

Quoting: Avehicle7887That's a surprising (and awesome) move by the devs, glad they're still supporting the game this far. Will patiently await Bannerlord till then :-)
I was going to say, does this give a nice hint that 1) Bannerlord is coming soon™ and 2) It'll have Linux support (I think for a while there was some 'maybe / maybe not' going about).

I emailed them about possibly sticking 64GB of RAM into their Onyx Pro line, but really if they're close enough to a refresh, I'd probably rather get an AMD (mainly to avoid Optimus nonsense)
