Quoting: GuestSince it's not in the Debian Stretch repositories (gotta wait for Debian 10), I decided to install it via flatpak. I was happy when I found out it was the newest version. I hope they keep it up to date.

While I was on Debian 8 a while back I compiled it from source. That was a headache that I don't want to go through again.
You can easily download distro-agnostic binary release from their releases page [External Link], listed as "Other Linux" on their downloads page [External Link].
I know. I was actually going to download that until I found the flatpak package on flathub.

I thought about it for a minute then decided that the flatpak package would be easier for me to keep updated I guess.

I'm just curious why it hasn't been backported to Debian 9. I'm kinda surprised by that.
You can either give it time or request it get into backports.

Oh, just checked, it isn't in Stretch at all. If you are knowledgeable enough, why not run Testing/Buster? (It generally is still more stable than Fedora).

Snap! The new Minecraft launcher now has another easy way to be installed on Linux

Quoting: slaapliedjeSnap pisses me off. Ubuntu literally forces it upon you, if you try to remove it, it removes the 'software-center' even if you're using the Gnome one instead of the Ubuntu one. They changed the dependencies from Debian's 'Suggests' to 'Recommends' for snap. And since by default Ubuntu will install Recommends as if they are dependencies, you have to force no recommends.

Time to go back to Buster...
I'm not a huge fan of snappy either. Nor am I huge fan of Ubuntu or really canonical in general.
Me either. I figured I would give it a try since somehow my Sid install on my laptop became corrupted and it was causing all sorts of errors that made me think I was having failing hardware, but everything seems to be running okay, so may just need to reinstall Debian. Ubuntu is too annoying.
Hmm that's kind of a weird problem. I too run Sid but I haven't had any issues like that. I started out on Mint but left because I wanted more control. I've only used Ubuntu itself a little bit but I really started to have problems with it when Canonical was caught sending search data from Unity to Amazon.
Yeah I hadn't had any issues for a long time, then they all looked like bus errors.

Thoughts on the Corsair STRAFE RGB Mechanical Keyboard with Cherry MX Silent Switches

Quoting: ArneJAh now I know where the inspiration for the layout of my WhiteFox [External Link] comes from.
Interesting. Do they have full keyboards like that? I don't like minified keyboards without function keys and numpad. I'm currently using Sun Type 5 keyboard with USB converter, but I'd prefer something a bit more ergonomic but also using Unix layout.
They have the Kira [External Link], but that's not yet ready for shipping and can only be pre-ordered. Maybe that layout fits you better.
Whoa, may have to get me a Kira for one of my Atari's to replace the internal keyboard, since I'll be putting it in my rack case at some point. Custom layout would be perfect there.

When the Ryzen is operating in a thermally limited environment its performance is only marginally better than Bristol Ridge.
BS. There is no way in hell that the improved architecture and move to 14nm from 28nm in manufacturing is going to give a marginal performance improvement.

I strongly suspect that a bigger factor was that amd, having to get rid of a bunch of bristol ridge CPU's and chipsets that no one wants, gave a very nice deal to atari.
I think the point was that it auto throttles when it is too hot, and when that happens the performance isn't much better. Anyone ever tested this to see if it is bullshit? Curious if they are lying or not.

Nice! I have a Roccat Ryos MK Pro at work and the Fx version at home. Guess now I know which keyboard I will switch to at work at least if one of them dies on me. I swear some people just want the loud keys for feedback, for me it is the fact that I don't have to deal with mushy keys. I used to get bad carpal tunnel, then I switched to an ergonomic keyboard. That fixed the wrists but then caused pain in my fingers, getting a flat mechanical keyboard has helped me with that, and now that I am so used to typing with my wrists upward that the ergonomic keyboards force you to do, I do the same on the flat ones.

8-Bit Adventures 2, a retro-inspired RPG that aims to be more than just a throwback will support Linux

Quoting: CriticalGamesAUHi everyone, developer of 8-Bit Adventures 2 here - thanks for the comments! =D
Good luck with the release, and keep us posted! I failed to mention this in my previous comment, but I really like what I see.

Quoting: slaapliedjeLove the dig at the Atari ST...
Sorry, couldn't resist even if it made no sense. :P I actually had a foot in both camps and never took part in that particular war.
And I wasn't particularly picking on this game, it's just I've seen a lot of games that say '8-bit' to be retro, but there is no way they could actually be made to run on the real hardware.

8-Bit Invaders is a perfect example of this. In fact there is absolutely nothing 8-bit about it. It's not even really retro.

This game looks much like Phantasy Star! So I'm interested for sure.

D'oh I was going to go buy the first one, but apparently it has not been ported to Linux. Almost bought 8-Bit Adventure Anthology Volume 1 thinking that it was the first part, but apparently it's just remakes of Shadowgate, Uninvited and Deja Vu. May buy those later anyhow..

Any chance for the first 8-Bit Adventures to be ported?

The Linux version of Civilization VI should get cross-platform online play in the next few weeks

Cool, last time I tried to launch it, it wouldn't work at all...
