Serious Sam VR: The First Encounter is now waiting on SteamVR being updated for Linux

Besides, depending on which SSVR you're talking about... The Last Hope is a wave shooter that is 180°, The First Encounter is a full on 360° game, Half the time I'm getting killed from death from above as well.
Either way, they're both amazing and I'm really looking forward to playing them in Linux / Vulkan.

Quoting: gehneoEvery cell of my body is waiting for the arrival of SteamVR and the Unity SteamVR plugin from Valve on Linux. I'll buy SSVR the moment it's available on Linux, even though I'm not really interested in shooters at all, to support the phenomenal Linux support of Croteam. That will be a glorious day when I can finally stop booting Windows to experiment with Unity and my Vive...Oh please god no... anyone who has played SSVR:The Last Hope or First Encounter would know that using a gamepad would seriously suck. It's designed for the Vive wands and works absolutely amazingly with them. The gamepad support route just reminds me of Oculus who released their headset too soon without touch and are paying for it now.
Quoting: GuestWill this same version be playable without VR?
Because my debit card is waiting for that linux logo to appear, but I don't have VR.I don't think so. SSVR is a 180° shooter with very limited movement (limited by the size of your playspace with no artificial movement). An adaption for mouse and keyboard would probably be pretty boring - no movement, just controlling the crosshair / looking around and shooting.
It looks as if Croteam would at least think about adding gamepad support [External Link] to SSVR.

Actually I think there is more than ome game originally published by Activision that had an official port, The Quake games did (they were Id's publisher before Zenimax bought them...)
And onto Zenimax, who is actually the current publisher of Bethesda and id games. I think they are still on the fence. Maybe after SteamVR releases on Linux and we can get the engine ported over?
I still wish we could get more Atari published games as well, Neverwinter Nights 2 would be fantastic (hell, even getting the GOG Steam version of the first one would make me happy)

Quoting: KimyrielleI thought there were now at least two games published by Ubisoft? Can't rmember them, but they were smaller ones that also made it to PS4 as one of the freebies, if I recall.Quoting: fedotixI am happy that 3000 games ...I wouldn't bet as much as a dime to see ANYTHING made by EA or Activision on Linux, ever. At least not before hell freezes over. Of the big three publishers, Ubisoft might be closest to consider ports (they actually did one...one!), but I wouldn't hold my breath for that, either. The one larger studio not already on Linux we -might- see one day is Bethesda. And even that is more wishful thinking on my part.
But what i wish in that some blockbluster very popular on windows (call of duty, battlefield ...) could be ported in linux.
Can we hope for soon ?
What do you think ?

Victor Vran Overkill Edition announced (two new DLC)

I don't care about another Grand Sword of the Fiery Cobras. I want Xibec's Sword! Give us more plotted out games. Ultima IV started out the "as open as you want it to be world" yet still had a plot you could win. Any of these open world games now are pointless time wasters. Victor Vran is a great action / Adventure game that is well balanced. I just need to figure out how to play local co-op with a new character so I am not 20th level and my brother is 1st... I had started playing it before they added the feature. Guess I could just start over....

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTNot enough loot? Seriously? It's one of the things I do appreciate about this game, everything is quite balanced. Lot's of loot, but not too much, competitive fights, but not too hard, Hack'n'Slay, but not too fast.....(:I have to agree with this. I actually made a comment on reddit against Diablo for the very thing of 'too much random loot'
Except for the performance, which isn't a real problem due to the genre of the game, I think it's pretty much perfect!

Ha, not sure exactly how anyone could "Hijack Linux". It is open source, you can do whatever with it. Closest thing to Hijacking it that I have seen is Android, where they use the kernel, but replace the GNU userland to make it less useful.
SteamOS is literally just Debian Jessie with some kernel tweaks and backported drivers that boots up to big picture mode by default. I haven't tried this, but I bet one could set it to official repositories and it would work perfectly fine. Which I couldn't say that about the majority of Debian based systems. Ubuntu for example will break all sorts of things.

In the case of SteamOS, there are still manufacturers making Steam Machines. So it certainly hasn't failed. The only criteria in which it failed is that maybe it didn't match some people's criteria of success. If they thought that it would sell in the same numbers as xbox or playstation... or even Wii, they were deluding themselves. Steam Machines would need to be sold out of Walmarts, and Toys R Us for success like that. Instead they were sold online, and maybe out of places like Fry's of which are only in certain states here.
I also laugh that you refer to it in the past tense... Debian Stretch recently went into Hard Freeze, which means it will release soon enough, then SteamOS will get a massive update.

Quoting: TheRiddickHijack Linux? you do realize there is more then 1 distribution of Linux right? everyone is entitled to make their own release, even Valve. You do know that updates for the Steam app still work on all other distributions, they didn't lock it down to SteamOS. Some people need some education in their head!As with anything open source. As long as there are users and developers working on it, they have not failed.
SteamOS was for the Steam consoles (open source console technically), it failed because the drivers and software were not up to snuff, alot of developers saw this, and dropped support for Linux, but as you can see we're finally getting more work put into that aspect of Linux.... (still going to take at least a year to match Windows performance overall)...

I have to share some of my Linux gaming frustrations here. Seems to be a terrible trend where 'couch gaming' works better on Windows than it does on Linux.
Case in point, Hero Siege and Death Road to Canada. Hero Siege; something with their engine port to Linux breaks input, so controllers don't work. Death Road to Canada; Over Steam Link, I couldn't get the second controller (first was Steam Controller, second was Xbox 360) to work in Linux. Yet both of these work fine in Windows.
And this happens with far too many games. I don't know if the Devs just don't care, or (like Hero Siege) they just can't spend the time to patch their game to get it to work right.
I can't say it's only Linux games though, still can't figure out how to play Marvel Ultimate Alliance to work over the Link, and that's through Windows... so, it definitely is causing some of this pain.
But more on topic, it's fantastic that we've hit over 3k! I still remember being excited that Loki had released a few commercial games!
(on a side note, anyone have the newer installer for Myth for Linux? The links which shouldn't be that old were all broken when I was looking a week ago.)

Sean Bean makes anything sound awesome. With every quote he reads, even when I’ve heard it before, I can’t help but adore the game more. If he could just narrate everything I do, that would be great."Liam is taking a poop" - Sean Bean
Croteam say all Serious Sam games are on their way to Linux with Vulkan, also VR on Linux teaser from Valve

So doing the sequels in VR seems very appropriate and attainable.
With the Exception of the Solus Project, Serious Sam: The First Encounter VR is really the first fully complete game that I've played in VR. All the rest I've played are 'Oh, shoot all these things, then go to the next area for another wave of things to shoot.'
Well, I guess you could add Duck Force into that (which is also for Linux), it is just a silly game (fun though).

Quoting: BeamboomYes, I've been evil... I have been playing The First Encounter in VR... it's absolutely phenomenal. While Last Hope is just a wave shooter (hard as hell though), First Encounter seems like basically the original game, though it's been many years since I played it, it seems they imported the levels into the SS3 Engine and then added VR.Quoting: elbuglioneMaybe it's time to buy HTCVive...I'm right behind you! As soon as the software support is in place.
