Quoting: Purple Library GuyMicrosoft prefers that you sacrifice goats, and Linux always sacrifices children. Don't worry, your kids are safe, it's only children of naughty parent processes that get sacrificed.Quoting: slaapliedjeI've been playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey lately. Unfortunately on my desktop (running an nvidia 3080 RTX) it does not perform well enough under Linux, and the frame rate keeps dipping. Under Windows 10 it ran flawlessly, with HDR and all on (granted I had to turn off my 2nd and 3rd monitor to get HDR to work, and maybe that'd also help the framerate in Linux).See, the problem with dual booting like that is that both platforms sense you're a filthy traitor. If you don't take that into account you won't be sacrificing nearly enough chickens to keep them appeased.
That being said, for some dumb reason, Ubisoft Connect times out after I've played it so long and just logs me out (even after telling it again and again to keep me logged in.) so if I want cloud sync to work, I have to re-login with all my credentials and 2fa after I play it for sessions longer than whatever that time out is... Then I upgraded to Windows 11. Now it keeps me logged into Ubisoft Connect, but the game locks up when I try to quit it. I can't win...
On the flip side of this, Odyssey works quite well on the Steam Deck. Granted it's not trying to push 3840x1200 like it is on my desktop.

Quoting: rcritAnd I'm reminded that some Source games will not run on xfs filesystems :-(Huh, wonder how many people are using xfs on their home directories? I know Redhat switched to it, but not sure how many use that as their desktop OS (I would, but I like shiny new things).

Quoting: CZiNTrPTHaha! I can only imagine some situation where one day someone is asking if they should start a war... and auto correct switches the wrong word and generations of people are at conflict...Quoting: slaapliedjeErm, the square is actually a typo from me. On my mobile keyboard if I press 2 too long it comes out as ²Quoting: Liam DaweNot sure why they used a squared instead of a proper 2, but remasters for sure are a low effort money grab 90% of the time, as the developers don't actually have to develop new maps and story, etc.Quoting: CZiNTrPTSomebody knows why ² year old crysis 3 has an remaster? What's up with that?Crysis 3 was released in 2013. It's a lot more than 2 years old.
But I think what mosy causes it, games changing hands and the new owners want to make money off of their newly acquired companies. Even Blizzard, bought by Microsoft cranked out Diablo Immortal.

Ha, Source 2 came out so long ago, I keep forgetting that they basically haven't really released a normal Game with it (Half-life: Alyx is a VR game, and I don't ever think about the others, as I don't play those type of games at all (Dota2 being multiplayer/eSport focused and Artifact being a card game).
For some reason I was thinking they had started updating their older games to use Source 2.

Quoting: EikeRight, I only have the 3080 RTX in my desktop rig.Quoting: slaapliedjeBut that's what the current version does for most Nvidia setups. I don't think it has anything to do with prime.Quoting: michaldybczakYeah, I get the start up sound and a box that is transparent. Granted, I also run at 3840x1200. I could guess it doesn't much like that.Quoting: EikeMaybe this? No, also doesn't do anything. From what I heard, this doesn't work on nvidia cards and that is the reason.
prime-run "steam -newbigpicture"

Quoting: cere4lBeing able to move a Linux binary anywhere really depends on how it was built, but in general, you can move it anywhere you want because the location of the libraries won't change.Quoting: elmapulWindows has a standard thing to do with .exe? Since when. A exe is just an executable, just like a executable file on linux. Which can do just about ANYTHING from opening the program to installing. And ye sure you can't "just" move an executable under linux and expect it to work. But the same goes for windows.Quoting: M@GOidI wish Appimage became more widespread. So many projects have a Linux port but don't provide a convenient way to use the thing. Meanwhile those same projects don't have a problem providing a Windows executable.its not the developers fault if we dont have an standard on linux like windows have with .exe, we are just now making those techs that work across distros and even with then some distros chose to not support all of then or offer a crap support so we still have to solve "political problems" before we can solve "techinical" ones, not to mention is a bit hard to make those packages last time i checked.
That just contribute to the bad look Linux have among Windows users "I don't use Linux because I don't want to compile a program to use it".
but hey, if you think otherwise you can always package yourself once they relase the source code...
