Steam Deck (LCD), reviewed by a portables enthusiast

I love my deck, don't get me wrong, it's awesome for travel, and gets me to sleep earlier since I can play in bed until I drop asleep, but the fact that the screen and controls are in the same place (true for every handheld) is tiring for the body.

Ideally, you want to look straight into a screen, while holding the controls low so your arms are in rest position. With handhelds, you either have to hold the heavy thing up for your neck to have a better time, or bend your neck down for hours for your arms to not get tired.

I'm back on spending more time on my deck these days, but I don't think I can sustain that.

What have you been playing lately?
I've been replaying some of my old games; the ones that made me switch to Linux. Most recently, Mark of the Ninja, and now Brütal Legend

Quoting: Liam DaweI get the Giana Sisters situation wasn't great but as we know sometimes ports just don't work out. Humble certainly aren't the only one to fail on a port, but they definitely could have communicated it better.

Feral, VP, Aspyr and plenty of others either cancelled ports entirely, or put out ports that really weren't great as did many other developers. Linux was a different world back then, much much smaller than it is now, I see no reason to hold such things against them when they offer up good deals.
I think it's just that they were the first to disappoint, at least for me :D

Quoting: WorMzyI'm still bitter about the Giana Sisters debacle. Fuck Humble.
Quoting: ShabbyXYeah, that's _exactly_ thr bundle after which I stopped paying any attention to Humble whatsoever.

Not that I care about Giana Sisters in any way, but it was the promise that wasn't delivered that killed the bundles for me.
I've only been in the Linux-gaming scene for a couple of years, so I missed this. What happened?
Maybe WorMzy could provide more details (as to why he called it a debacle), but what I remember is there were a few bundles with all games supporting Linux, then came one where the top-tier game (the one you need to pay above average / more than X$), which was Giana Sisters, did not have a Linux build at the time of the bundle sale, but they said it would "come soon".

At the time, Linux games were not as plenty, and apparently that was a good game or something, so pretty much every Linux gamer who bought the bundle bought it especially for that game. They kept saying they'll release the Linux build at some point, and it never happened. Hence the bitter feelings.

Humble bundle having all-linux games is what got me to switch over to Linux back in 2012~13. Remember Linux gamers having the highest pay on average? Those days.

Didn't take them long until their games were not even _mostly_ native Linux games and they quickly became irrelevant to me. Shame.

Luckily, Steam!

Liam, it would be nice to have the native vs proton status right next to the title name like you do in other articles.

Peanuts for Valve I'm sure. I wonder if the cost of lawyers trying to fight it was even worth it, lol

If true, suspicious to say the least...
I have no idea how shares/stocks work but wouldn't that be classed as insider trading ?
Yes, hence Mohandevir's "Mhm!"
