Valve announce a new game that's not Half-Life 3, introducing 'Artifact', a card game

I don't mind card games, but their appeal tends to get suddenly squashed for me, if they tell me I have to buy 10,000 booster packs to get on halfway even footing with the average Jane playing it. I would probably like that sort of games if they'd give both side the full selection of cards to build their decks with and then let skill win. Pay2Win sucks, though.

Linux game sales statistics from multiple developers, part 5

Quoting: ShmerlBasically, Apple wants to tax cross platform developers. In this sense, they are worse than MS these days.
They are worse than MS in -every- regard. It wasn't MS who invented locked-down operating systems and monopolized software distribution giving them complete and exclusive control on what you do with YOUR device. Honestly, in terms of disgusting business practices, I'd argue Apple is easily the most evil technology company on Earth. I find it laughably how this company gets defended by its hordes of hipster fanboys, hipster fangirls and hipster design studios just because Apple products are apparently more "cool" than anything else. I dunno, I rather have a less "cool" product that performs way better, allows me to do what I want to do, and costs way less to boot.

Back on topic, I actually think the numbers aren't THAT bad - we seem to outdo our actual market share in the desktop OS market, even (which most think is a bit less than 2%). The only downside of this is that despite Linux gaming has been vastly improving over the past few years, our numbers do not trend upwards at all. We have been given a load of indie games, a meaningful selection of AAA titles (come on, what other than MMOs -don't- we have these days?), better drivers, better distros - and we're still roughly where we started. Windows 10 is definitely disappointing people and Mac never has been a good gaming platform, so one should think at least some would give Linux a shot?

The Sid Meier's Civilization VI 'Summer 2017 Update' and Nubia content are out, Linux support 'soon'

They seem to be reasonably fast with getting new patches to work on Linux, so it's all good. :)

I wonder when they are going to include Canada for the first time ever in a Civ game, and what it would take for them to consider having the second largest country on Earth in there. I know, I know...we're America's hat and the unofficial 51st state. But still!

Maybe after the "Jamaica and Easter Island" DLC?
No offence but Canada is 150 years old and the game might just as well end at the year which Canada was founded. It's just a country made of people from around the world, just like the USA but at least they are the world's superpower. There are plenty ancient or old civilizations that are not included in the game and probably never will be so I wouldn't hold my breath for Canada.
Isn't Australia in the game ?
Yes, it is. Despite Canada is older (not by much, but still), larger both in area and population and a bigger economy.

But they are not considered America's hat. *shrug*

Open source RTS '0 A.D.' Alpha 22 Venustas has been released, it's huge

Quoting: AnxiousInfusionIt looks like there is actually a studio behind 0AD development which would explain the quality that is normally absent from open source games.
This is indeed the only commercial-quality open source game I am aware of. Apparently it's trivial to find talented programmers willing to contribute work to a community project, but not artists. Most OSS games really look as if a three year old having no artistic talent tried out random buttons in Photoshop, while this one is a very welcome exception. I don't know why this is. I guess artists are much more obsessed with getting paid for their work and retain all the rights, that's the only explanation I have.

Wow, I had no idea that FO4 is -anywhere- near running in WINE. That's great news! :)

Wine 2.13 has been released with a few noteworthy changes, including fixes for The Witcher 3

Looking at what people get to run in WINE just fine, I guess I am not particularly lucky with my taste in games. Of all the games I'd have an interest in getting them to run in Wine, the ONLY one working well enough for me not want to boot into Windows is Star Wars The Old Republic. Guild Wars 2 runs sort of ok too, but I no longer play that. Everything else I ever tried doesn't work at all or not well enough. I usually have little interest in vintage games, I guess that's why...

On the plus side, I haven't played non-Linux game in ages (last one was Fallout 4), so I increasingly don't care anymore. :D

Albion Online hasn’t exactly been the smoothest of launches so far, but I'm hopeful for the future of it

Quoting: Avehicle7887The districts system was very well at the time, still one of the best which made queues practically inexistant.

I wish all mmos used a similar one nowadays.
Most recent MMOs do that, although not all will allow players to manually switch the instances like GW1 did, so many players won't even notice the feature.
But seriously, if a new MMO releases with separate "servers" or "shards" players can't switch freely between, I burst into laughter almost immediately. And in all honesty, queues happening in a MMO anywhere outsides of launch week is inexcusable, too. If a 2017 MMO can't do player load balancing in a non-stupid manner, chances are about 100% that the rest of the game sucks as well.
