Paradox has acquired Triumph Studios, makers of Age of Wonders & Overlord

I get why some people don't like Paradox's DLC strategy (Hint: Just don't buy them at full price), but why a proven Linux friendly company acquiring more development manpower should be a bad thing is beyond me. Is there something, ANYTHING the Linux community does NOT whine about? Paradox is the only larger publisher I am aware of putting ALL of their new games to Linux and doing so INHOUSE and not just porting! Their games are top quality, too. And the upside of the DLCs is that they keep adding new interesting features to their games for a long, long while after release, which keeps them interesting and fresh to play for years. Which puts their price into perspective, compared to Random First Person Shooter, which you shell out $60 for as well, play for 20 hours and then uninstall.

Some people are just never happy.

Albion Online shows off the Guardians, huge beasts to take down in PVE

Quoting: MaelraneWhat I don't get is people trying to make a MASSIVELY (!) Multiplayer game to become some small coop game. Really, doesn't want in my head. Maybe I am simply too old.
No, you're not too old, you're just over-interpreting the "massive" in MMO. "Massive" doesn't mean that you need a massive amount of people to get anything done. It just means that you are sharing the world with a massive amount of people. You can be a lone wolf in such a game and still enjoy being a part of a large community and interacting with them indirectly, e.g. by crafting or trading. Like in...you know...real life, where you don't HAVE to join an international corporation to making a living, either.

I am not a fan of WoW, but it was indeed the first game to recognize above circumstance. While this game here seems to want to make a point of repeating really every single mistake ever made in the design of MMOs and combining them in one single game. World bosses that can be killed only with large zergs and have insane respawn times to REALLY make sure that only 1337 zerg guilds will ever manage to kill it, for they will be the only ones able to camp the spawn point at the right time and defend it?

I laughed.

And booted into Windows to play a MMO that's actually fun.

Neil deGrasse Tyson's Space Odyssey apparently will come to Linux

It's generally unsafe to hand money to a development team with no proven track record. People doing that need to acknowledge that there is a very strong chance that such a project will fail. There might still be grounds for doing it anyway if people -really- want that project to happen, but they should treat it like the subprime investment it is.

Personally I have backed quite a number of projects, but my personal rule is never to give money to a team unless they have a proven track record as game developers in general AND can show me convincing evidence that they are able to deploy on Linux.

IO Interactive retains the rights to HITMAN and becomes fully independent

I am totally not sure if this is good news. Actually more the opposite. Square Enix is quite Linux friendly. Until proven otherwise, we have not the slightest reason to believe that IO will be the same. They are a Windows-only studio having made nothing but Windows games so far (if I am not totally mistaken), and it was -Square Enix- that hired Feral to do the port.

I like them giving the smaller nations some love. Playing WW2 games as Germany, USA or Russia has gotten old a little, so giving it a go as a smaller nation is fun!

Albion Online's big final beta 'Hector' update has launched, it has issues on Linux

I dunno. What's the point of getting nice stuff if you can't dare to take it out of town? That...doesn't make any sense. I realize that this game deliberately wanted to be "old school", but sometimes old school things have died for a reason. *shrug*

As always, I still think they need a ton more PvE content to keep people interested.
Yup, as a non PvP interested player , that's what I want :)
I guess even if they'd add more PvE content, most non-hardcore PvP players are probably not very likely to touch a game having open world ganking and player-looting with the proverbial 10-foot pole. I am longing for a great Linux suppported MMORPG as much as anyone, but this game is simply not it. It will be a very small game appealing to a very small group of players. They might have some fun with it. But a big thing it will not become.

The slides for the Vulkan presentations from Feral Interactive, Croteam and more are now up

On par with DX11? Hm, since DX12 is much faster than DX11, doesn't that then mean that Vulkan is probably lagging behind DX12? Not a big problem now, as no serious developer I am aware of is considering offering DX12 exclusive games anytime soon, but if we hope to eat into Windows market share, we ideally want Vulkan to be -better- than DX12, no? Otherwise what's the incentive for AAA developers to use it over the current industry standard DirectX (mind you that portability won't matter to them as long as Windows has a 95% market share).

Wine 2.9 released with support for Direct3D tessellation shaders

WINE sure seems to pick up some steam these days. oO

I have no clue how far they are in terms of actually completing DX11 support, but they sure release a lot of patches now. :)

For me, it's Skyrim, Fallout 4 and ESO I am looking forward no longer to have to boot into Windows for. No clue how far WINE is away from being able to run these, though.
