The Talos Principle has another stable build with Vulkan improvements, much better than OpenGL

I want to see the difference between Vulkan-Windows vs Vulkan-Linux and OpenGL-Windows vs OpenGL-Linux.

Quoting: natewardawgOkay, I did some benchmarks with DirectX 11 under Windows 10, Vulkan under Linux, and OpenGL under Linux. I ran the benchmark on a GTX 960 and an i7-6700K using the 60 second benchmark. If it says Ultra, then all settings were set to Ultra, for Medium, all settings were set to Medium, etc. If anyone wants to know a particular combination feel free to ask.Can you do the Vulkan and the OpenGL benchmarks under windows too?
Here are the results:
D3D 11:
Ultra: 45.6
Medium: 172.6
Lowest: 355.2
Vulkan Linux:
Ultra: 41.6
Medium: 158.3
Lowest: 419.3
OpenGL Linux:
Ultra: 36.5
Medium: 101.0
Lowest: 263.2
So, we are getting much closer :) It's interesting when put on low settings that Vulkan completely smokes D3D11 by almost 70 fps. I'm wondering if this has to do with multi-threading vs the pseudo multi-threadedness of D3D11?

Wine 2.3 released with more Direct3D command stream and Shader Model 5 work

I barely reached the 30fps on Windows 7 on high details...
So, obviously, with a GTX 750 and playing it on Linux via wine the performance will be worst..

Quoting: sbolokanovJust retested witcher 3 with latest git (wine 2.3) + memory patch and it does render better (not as good though, staging we need).A couple of years ago, with a core i3 4160, 2x4GB1866 and a Zotac GTX 960 (I got Witcher 3 for FREE thanks to that card :) ),
But my PC can't keep up with it, so performance is bad.
I hit around 30% swap, maybe more.
Update: Processor is around 60-70% usage, video card is around 30-40%. So I guess swap does slow down the performance alot. Have to upgrade.

4 GB RAM + 10GB swap

Obviously You gonna have good performance with that powerfull hardware... :|
I would like to see a benchmark with a more realistic and reachable hardware: core i3 and a GTX 750ti, for example.
And I would like to see the difference against the OpenGL mode, the Vulkan mode and the DirectX mode of the windows version of the game with the same hardware, so We can have more extensive information :)

Shadow of War, a sequel to Shadow of Mordor announced, no word on Linux yet

Shadow of War [External Link] will be released on August 22 in USA and August 25 in Europe and will be released for "PC" on the Steam store and Windows 10 store), Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro.
If the Linux version is not available on day 1, I'll pass.... Or maybe I will buy it for my Windows machine.
I prefer an internal Linux version made by Monolith, like 4AGames did with Metro Last Light and the two Metro Redux, instead a third party port.

If Valve really want the sucess of the Steam machines, an special hardware config is needed, like the P$4 has...
SteamOS and all the games must be optimized for that specific hardware config..
I imagine an Steam machine with more than one physical processor:
One processor with its own memory for system.
Another processor with its own memory for games
Another processor for the multimedia like Steam audio, video encoding and decoding,
Another for auxiliary calculus, such as physics...
And perhaps another processor for the calculus needed by any D3D-»OpenGL translation layer...
And timed AAA EXCLUSIVES... Valve MUST give to the average Joe a real reason for to buy this.

I don't like the idea of to kill women, videogame or reality...
If I have to kill a women in the game itself, I will not buy it.

Quoting: KimyrielleI have a better idea: They should add Mod Tools and let the gaming community make an share its own levels.Quoting: liamdaweI don't get the issue. To me, the issue is that such temporary content does nothing for the long-term growth of the game. The event comes, and goes, and then the game is at the exact state it was before. These things do consume developer resources that otherwise could have been used to make the game -permanently- larger and add to its replayability.
A much better solution would have been to leave in these targets permanently, but make it so that dying would put you on a long cooldown (e.g. a week) before you can try again.
Valve have announced 'Steam Audio' an SDK of advanced audio tools, it will support Linux

I think Feral must have a chat with EA.
About the SDK.
The idea of the audio occlusion is interesting..

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Hell even on windows Origin and Uplay are hardly alternatives in terms of library. Of course depends of the type of game you mostly play and are into if you mainly go for indie games then there are options if you like more mainstream titles its Steam or Steam.Well... Indeed Origin has an small library, but is very well curated and it has a feature that make it far superior than Steam in terms of service; Origin Access... Valve MUST take note on that..

I don't want to see synthetic benchmarks...
I want to see GAMING benchmarks on Linux, such Metro Redux, Bioshock Infinite and all the Linux games with benchmark tools..
Let's see the true single core performance.

Can you install an Steam game from a local backup without an internet connection?
No. Steam IS DRM and the fact that you need online permision for to install a game from a local backup, is evidence that you are not the owner of your games...
The only DRM that I happily accept is EA Origin on my Windows 7 machine, because for the 5 U$D per month of EA ACCESS I can play a lot of big EA games for FREE through EA VAULT... VALVe seriously MUST take note about that...
And yeah, I would like to see an interview to the people at Croteam explaining why they put DRM in their Linux games.

Quoting: Leopard[Simple. When I buy a game DRMFREE on GOG, that game is mine and, once I download the install files, I own it forever; I don't need to request online permision for to install and play MY GAMES... And that is because GOG trust me and that is why I trust them.
As i see,you have a specific fetish with Gog.Also this Che Guevera guy too.Which i'm so curious, what cause that?

Quoting: HollowSoldierThe game is ancient, people bought it according to ancient system requirements and may be playing it on ancient PCs. Getting a surprise update after the beta, that locks them out wouldn't make them happy. That is why I asked if it is a remastered edition or a forced update...
