Base building? Check! Resource gathering? Check! FMV cut-scenes? Heck yeah gimme that! Super weapons? Looks like it ticks that box and all.

Give me all of that (well maybe not the super weapons) but set in a fantasy world with modern graphics and storytelling and then I'll agree that the golden age of RTS has returned.

On the deck, I've been playing some Chained Echoes. I feel like the some is a bit of a problem, I'm not that far in and I'm not catching the story well enough. The vibrant environment and the JRPG nostalgia make up for it though!

For that, Valve does need to work on the Desktop Mode interaction. The on-screen keyboard isn't great, and the interface is too desktop-oriented to work well with the touchscreen. Another option would be an accessory keyboard/stand. Preferably one made/sold/promoted by Valve so that a) it's well integrated/supported and b) it's much more in your face that the Deck is very much usable as a regular computer.

I wholeheartedly agree. I denied the Plasma bandwagon for a bit (the first time I tried KDE desktop, several years ago, I didn't like it too much), but switched a few months ago on my desktop. On my laptop, I use Fedora with Cinnamon desktop. I like them both so much better than the stock Ubuntu desktop. Nowadays, everytime I use that on my gf's laptop, I'm appalled. I might like it less than the Windows DE.

GNOME does appear to have improved a lot, but Plasma and Cinnamon are going to be much more recognizable coming from Windows.

None of these are games I play but definitely a few of these are games I'm interested in.
However it's going to have to wait. I decided that, with the money I spent on the Deck, I'm going to use it to play through my backlog a bit...
But if I ever catch Elden Ring on sale, I don't think I'll be able to resist.

Me neither, I finally have a device that has Linux installed out of the box, with all the proper support that entails. Why would I want to do anything about that? OTOH, what if I wanted to dual boot it with Fedora or Debian?

But back to what was actually updated: The on-screen keyboard improvements do help a lot. Although I still find navigating in Desktop mode finicky. Anyone know of any package that allows for better desktop controls? Like, idk, using right track-pad for controlling the cursor and the left one for scrolling? Or right for cursor, left for fine-grained cursor, and a joystick for scrolling?

Updated text on Download page to clarify when player is downloading a patch vs an initial download

Seems like a small thing, but I'm happy to read this. It's more about the mentality this signifies: Tell your user what's happening. Since October, I have to use Windows for work again, and keep bumping into utterly useless messages, like 'Not implemented' (yes that's the full extent of the error message).
