But it will still be a same-day Linux release? That'd be cool. Sadly, system requirements only lists the Windows requirements now.

Steam Reaches Over 1,500 Linux Games, It's Not Enough

Quoting: mulletdeathit doesn't have a single exclusive (and exclusives are frequently what sell consoles).
I keep thinking Valve should introduce SteamOS/Steammachines with a bang if they want it to succeed, an exclusive the size of GTA V.

AMD Are Already Working On A Vulkan Driver, More Talk About Their New AMDGPU Driver

Then stick to the slides, even though I don't really like their style, but that seems to be commonplace in the tech industry.

Quoting: liamdaweEdit: To make my point some more, I often write about things others feel are important, but I don't. This is a prime example of it, and it's seeing some good discussion going. Do I need any other point?
Nope you don't. And you're right that it's not a very good indication of where Linux Gaming is at. But it is a small indication of things improving for us. Others, such as the 7 out of 10 you mentioned or the 29 out of 50 mentioned by Eike are better indications.

But there's still a long way to go...

AMD Are Already Working On A Vulkan Driver, More Talk About Their New AMDGPU Driver

Oh boy. If they can deliver on this somewhere about the time Vulkan launches (if you can name it a launch) I'm much happier again about my choice for AMD. In fact, even if performance is 'just' up to par with current Catalyst performance I'd be satisfied. Although, with Vulkan, it should be beyond that.

And the note on which the video ends sounds good as well. They seem to be convinced that any underlying software should be easy to access for any application, regardless of the exact use scenario. If applications (games in specific) can easily leverage the power AMD GPU's have to offer, they may well get a better foothold in the Windows world as well.

Alien: Isolation Officially Confirmed For Linux, Releasing On September 29th

Quoting: aristoriasLinux users should boycott nVIDIA since AMD shows great Open Source engagement.
I wouldn't say great, but the AMD open source drivers are alot better. And ofcourse there's the Mantle->Vulkan thing.
Edit: Although talk in that other news item today would make me reconsider.

Indeed, 1500 out of how many? And things like Anno Online, games that don't really run reliably, don't count. Not to mention the fact that most 'big' games only work properly on nVidia graphics. There's some way to go yet...

Still, even if they're mostly niche mobile ports or small indie games, it means that it's probably worth it to port those over.. And what's more, how long ago did we reach a 1000? This has been going fast. It is, in the end, a milestone worth mentioning.

GOL Asks: What Game Are You Looking Forward To Playing?

Quoting: GuestCarmageddon: Reincarnation
You got me interested there, for old times sake mostly...

While Alien:Isolation looks interesting enough, the top of my list of unreleased titles would be Trine 3, followed by Through the Woods. Although the first appears to be slightly underwhelming (short & fairly easy puzzles) and the second appears to be very short as well.

As for released titles, Victor Vran. Even though I haven't even bought it yet. Anyone got any ideas on how that would fare on a Radeon HD 7850? I'm afraid that won't hold out against Alien anyway...

Steam Controller Demo From Pax Prime With Valve Talking About It
15 Sep 2015 at 5:46 pm UTC

Quoting: FutureSutureAs you can see, some gamers aren't thrilled by the idea of using AA batteries. I, however, am ecstatic that Valve chose to go with the superior choice of allowing gamers to use rechargeable AA batteries as opposed to a proprietary battery pack built into the controller that will someday not be able to hold a charge. rendering the controller a useless brick. Now that's bad for the environment!
Should it not be able to charge AA batteries? I mean, just because its batteries aren't proprietary (which is a good thing) doesn't mean it can't also act as a charger..

Quoting: feyerbrand5 meters is 16 feet. That doesn't seem short at all.
But as it says at the linked page: Actual results may vary. If it turns out to be 2-3 meters in your specific living room that could turn out to be too short. Personally, I have a HDMI-cable running from my desktop to my TV, which easily adds a meter to the distance the controllers have to cover.
But maybe Valve is sensible enough to not put idealised measurements up on their product description? Although alot of companies aren't...

Alien Robot Monsters Released Tower Defence For Linux, It's Quite Boring

Oh wow, you even sound bored in my head reading this article. Which I guess is a compliment?
It rings true though, tower defence games have been done to death.
