Wine-Staging 2.2 released with CSMT speed optimizations
23 Feb 2017 at 11:38 am UTC

Glad I downloaded a copy of Wine Staging 2.1 from the Arch repos.

I don't know if it's just me as I am trying to compile Wine with "make -j4" or what but I seem to have found some regressions in version 2.2 Staging or not...

Wine 2.2 released with even more Shader Model 5 instructions and work towards Direct3D command stream

Quoting: Whitewolfe80But the problem with that argument is that Bethesda gimped the code in its first patch to ensure the Wine version was broken for several weeks until the good folks at Wine figured out a way to ungimp it. Bethesda and its overlords Zenimax see no benefit in going to the expense of supporting Linux, they just are not interested as they see it as un viable that not me trolling those are the words of Bethesda studio head in an interview from late 2015.
There was no "gimping". It was a combination of two things: Denuvo and unimplemented features. Once the DRM was removed, Wine Staging implemented the necessary features to be able to run the new DOOM.

XCOM 2 updated by Feral to support Long War 2

Quoting: GuestWhy are so many people complaining about difficulty of XCOM 2? It's really not that hard, especially on normal difficulty.
Maybe I am just daft at these things but XCOM2 makes me feel like I have to rush towards everything. I get that there is a time limit (the Avatar project) and that the XCOM group is not the same as it was in the previous game but I still feel like I have to go towards a certain path in research or whatever or otherwise I will be completely underpowered.

Also, for me at least, the difficulty is in the fact that rather early on you get the following:

a) an alien that can clone itself and teleport without triggering overwatch
b) the snake aliens whose tongue has a long reach, never misses, and wholly incapacitates the soldier while in the snake's grip
c) sectoids who can mind control AND animate the dead and control both at the same time
d) constant incursions against you that you can't delay for a day at the very least. This gets annoying when you are 1 day away from completing research on something important that could help make things slightly easier.
e) missions where you 8-12 turns to do something so no playing defense but you get to be swarmed with hostiles all over the place who rarely miss.

I played XCOM 1 on Normal and it was a different ballgame.

Quoting: sr_ls_boyJudasIscariot, your guide help me along time ago to get my controller working.
But, to use x360ce, you are going to need the xboxdrv userspace utility and
the uinput kernel module. Boiling steam didn't mention either one of those.

Also wine does have a builtin testing program for controllers. Assuming,
Arehandoro, didn't already know. To use it you'll need to emulate a virtual
desktop environment. A familiar 'start' button will appear on you desktop.
Click on that and then locate your wine control panel. You can test for
connected controllers and test the button layouts.
Hey, I am glad to hear my guide helped someone, good to know my writing it was not in vain :)

As for the userspace utility and kernel module, I don't know much about those other than I use the stock kernel in Antergos and x360ce worked out of the box after a couple of winetricks. I guess it depends on the distro one uses in this case.

Also, you can access the Wine controller test utility via the command line by running

wine control.exe

Quoting: ArehandoroI wish I could use my x360 controller* with this or any other version of wine.

* I know some people have achieved this but can't make it work.
I wrote up an Xbox 360 controller support guide for Way of the Samurai 4 here: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=34504 [External Link]

Perhaps some of the tricks I listed here will help for your game(s)?

Quoting: ColomboNice. It would be even better if it did not crashed my system on startup.
Could you start the game via your terminal and post the output? What error messages do you get when the game crashes?
