Quoting: wintermuteIf the developer hasn't actually posted a Linux version then all they see is a Windows sale even if Steam might track it internally as a Linux sale.Quoting: TuxeeSince there is only a Windows version it will be counted as Windows sale, regardless of being installed or played. That's not what the developer of the Stanley Parable said [External Link]. Buy it on Linux, don't play it for a week, Steam counts it as a Linux sale. Whether the publisher cares about Steam's stats is another matter.

That said, I do agree that Valve could be doing more to promote SteamOS/Linux, and I think there are several strategies they could employ such as basic advertising and partnering with developers to get SteamOS ports made, but there's no reason to be pessimistic. Things are still moving in a positive direction.

Quoting: EikeThe fact that they're doing "basic maintenance" is a good thing. If they let Steam for Linux get several versions behind Windows and OSX, and if we stopped seeing regular Linux releases in the Steam catalog, then I would see a reason to worry (and start looking for a cheap copy of Windows, as much as it would gall me).Quoting: Mountain ManAs far as I know, Valve is still actively supporting Steam for Linux and SteamOS, so why the doom and gloom? This was always a long-term project for them.I'm honestly asking: Anythng they've (visibly) done, say, this year?
Besides doing basic maintenance on Steam for Linux?

Quoting: BoogiepopPhantomAs far as I know, Valve is still actively supporting Steam for Linux and SteamOS, so why the doom and gloom? This was always a long-term project for them.I don't understand Valve's indifference in all these broken promises and massive delays...I don't want to be thoroughly pessimistic, but as I see it, SteamOS was Valve vanity project and it more or less flopped. So Valve cares less and less about linux/steamos it seems.
This pre-alpha video of BATTLETECH looks quite amazing

So does this have single player, or is it multiplayer only? If the former then I'm definitely interested. If the latter, not so much.

This is why you should never never never donate to Kickstarter or buy Early Access on the promise of a Linux version, and you should never never never buy any game unless a Linux version is actually available for download immediately following the purchase!
Seriously, guys, it's way too easy for us to get burned.

Quoting: EndeavourAccuracySometimes it's difficult to stay optimistic for us Linux gamers.Unfortunately, I have to agree, which is ironic because things are better than they have ever been for Linux gamers, but it sometimes feels like it could easily collapse and disappear.

Quoting: aldyMaybe linux users don't have the habit of buying unfinished games. As many times as Linux users have been burned by second-rate support and last-minute cancellations, this is a valid theory

All I know is that I've never had a problem with Nvidia while I hear nothing but complaints from AMD users. It has been like this for years, long before Feral started porting to Linux.

Quoting: GuestTo put things another way (and to clarify about "expansions" vs. typical "DLCs", even though "expansions" can of course be "DLCs" themselves):Funny, but even I'm not that cynical. For one thing, this exaggerates the quality of expansions in the past. Back then "glorified patch" was a rather common, and valid, criticism.

Trust me, I would be thrilled if AMD and Intel stepped up their game and provided some meaningful competition, but they haven't.

Quoting: CaldazarLong story short: As a consumer, don't mistake market power for quality.I'm not. I'm basing it on the fact that Nvidia's drivers simply work better than AMD's. It has nothing to do with market power which I couldn't give a pair fetid dingo's kidneys about. Like I said, I go with what works.
