Quoting: NyamiouConsidering the state of open source graphics drivers, I'm not sure what other choice the developers have.Quoting: Mountain ManWell, in fact that does tell us that the open source drivers are not going to be supported.Quoting: GuestAs I mentioned before, I don't mind this, in fact I think it's something SteamOS is quite useful for.I don't mind it, either, since a static platform is easier to develop for, and if it will work on SteamOS then it will work on any distro (at least in theory), but the way they say it almost makes it sound like SteamOS isn't Linux, when it actually is.

Quoting: TheRiddickPS. I played XCOM2 beforehand a bit to try it out, but it wasn't an official copy so I deleted it. It had bad fps on the Radeon open driver! (like 15fps with nasty stutter/freeze)So you admit to playing a pirated copy, and then have the gall to complain about the performance?

And this is why I'm glad I held off on buying the "season pass", because so far, the DLC has been very underwhelming. Hopefully "Shen's Last Gift" will be worthwhile since it adds a new class, and then, maybe, Firaxis will get to work on a proper expansion.

When we speak of Linux support, we mean SteamOS support. That's an odd distinction when you consider that SteamOS is Linux.

Quoting: t3gIf Valve is shifting focus away from SteamOS (in favor of VR), what makes you think developers and publishers are going to spend the extra effort if Valve is losing interest? What gave you the idea that Valve is shifting focus away from SteamOS? It's a large and flexible company. They can have multiple focuses.

Quoting: NyamiouIt'll also make you really, really wish you could work for Valve.Quoting: KristianYou need to read this to understand Valve: http://www.valvesoftware.com/company/Valve_Handbook_LowRes.pdf [External Link]Beware that if you read this you might realise that there is now very little chance that HL3 ever come out.

This is a game I was excited to see coming to Linux, until the reviews hit, and then I was considerably less excited.
A third of Valve now working on VR, still no Linux support

Another way to look at it is that by dedicating so many resources to VR, it will allow them to bring it to Linux even faster.

Quoting: SelthusIn my opinion this is extremely troubling. Valve is dedicating that much labor to the Vive and they can't be bothered with Linux support? You're a "glass is half-empty" type of thinker, aren't you?
