Oops... you're right. I multiplied the percentages by a factor of 10.

Steam's latest Hardware Survey is out, shows Linux at 0.84%

Quoting: autonomouseAccording to a chart in the comments section in Phoronix (https://www.phoronix.com/forums/forum/phoronix/latest-phoronix-articles/875653-valve-s-steam-survey-shows-linux-gaming-fall-to-one-of-the-lowest-levels-ever/page5) in February 2013, when our market share was ~2%, there were 7million active Steam users. Now, when we're at 0.84%, there are an estimated 18.5million users.

If those numbers are correct - and I haven't checked them, so please find an original source before anybody quotes this - then in 2013 there were 140,000 linux users and now there are 155,400 users.

So the userbase has gone up (by 15,400 users!), but it just hasn't kept in line with the number of Windows users, hence the lower percentage.

(7,000,000/100%) * 2.0% = 140,000
(18,500,000/100%) * 0.84% = 155,400

I haven't the time now to dig around to find out if those figures for the total concurrent number of steam users are correct, but even if they're not, please do remember that this is all relative (as is mentioned in the article).

Actually, maybe in future when referring to the steam survey, the headlines should quote the number of users, calculated in this way, rather then the percentage?
Your math isn't quite right. That should be 1,400,000 and 1,554,000, so the increase in Linux users was over 150,000, so even as flawed as the survey is, it's still showing steady growth for Linux.

Quoting: ShmerlI think people should stop paying attention to this survey. It's not representative of the whole picture even for Steam itself.
I agree, the results are very misleading. Unfortunately, a lot of people do pay attention to it, including developers who sometimes cite the survey results as a reason to not support Linux.

I wish Valve would release their internal statistics some time because you know they have an exact count of how many people are using which operating system and how many people are dual booting (a practice I gave up months ago).

Quoting: wojtek88Good information have to say. First for over 5 days. Previous one was the fact that F1 2015 was released. Both good news come from Feral. I have to ask - what happens with other porters? What happens with Virtual Programming? What happens with Aspyr? Do those companies still work on porting games to Linux? It is super silent about them...
Based on the number of releases, I get the sense that Feral is a much larger company, and with more releases comes more revenue... which means money for more releases. Aspyr and VP definitely need to step up their game if they want to stay competitive.

Dead Island Definitive Edition and Dead Island Riptide: Definitive Edition released, seem to have hidden Linux versions

Quoting: ziabiceI edited the drirc file as suggested, but that don't helped, still getting a blank screen.

I think that the problem here is that the game engine misinterpret my OpenGL version string and complains on start, but let me play anyway: that happens also with other games, ie "Crookz: The big heist" or "Serious Sam 3", and seems to me a major Mesa bug.
Dead Island Definitive Edition uses the Chrome Engine 6, which is the same engine that Dying Light uses, so it wouldn't surprise me if it has the same OpenGL requirements (4.4) as Dying Light.
Yes, I just tried to run "The Dying Light" Demo and it doesn't work too. Complains about the OpenGL version then crashes, and from the logs it seems an OpenGL problem.

So this game is not ready for Mesa 11.2 (or Mesa is not ready for it, as you wish)
FYI, the Dying Light demo is from the 1.0 build of the game. The full version is currently at, I think, 1.6, so you might actually have better luck with the full game. Of course you can always get a refund if you're not happy.

Probably not simply because Linux is not officially supported at this time.

Legends of Eisenwald being ported to Linux by Codeweavers, will use Wine

We started development in 2010. Back then cross platform wasn't much of a concern.
For future games we will be still using our engine. And it's DirectX.
O.o ?
So its still not a concern. And wine ports for recent titles like this one (and their future games) are still not a good thing, too many of them can damage linux gaming
To be fair, it would require a major engine rewrite to go from DirectX to OpenGL.

Quoting: Linux tayshadyThe fact that you're posting this news article and not news about big games coming out on Linux is a big tell though.
Oh, come on, this website is frequently posting articles about upcoming and just-released games.

Quoting: wojtek88- Valve have made super discrete launch of Steam Machines. If I wasn't following this site everyday I guess I would miss Steam machines launch.
I was at my local GameStop recently, and there was a prominent SteamOS display featuring the Steam Controller and a couple of Steam Machines. A retail presence in the biggest gaming franchise in the US is a pretty big deal.

That puts things into perspective. How many six-month old platforms can boast 2000+ games?
