This is completely different from that editorial the other day with the one developer basically insinuating that Linux support is a waste of time.

Quoting: mawwwDo not forget as well that windows, with all its faults, has maintained backward *binary* compatibility accross the whole system, you can still run binaries from more that 10 years ago and it will work.
Say what? There is a lot of older Windows software, particularly games, that won't work on the latest version of Windows, even with Microsoft's numerous attempts to ensure backwards compatibility. Remember that GoG (formerly known as Good Old Games) got its start updating older games so that they could run on modern operating systems.

Quoting: GuestThe problem is most people have a Microsoft education instead of a computer education.
It's the old Microsoft Certification program that basically teaches you how to use Windows but doesn't actually teach you anything about computers. I have yet to personally see the fragmentation actually cause any issues myself, so I’m still not entirely sure where people get that idea from.
Years of FUD, unfortunately. Microsoft put some serious effort into discrediting Linux around a decade ago, and things like "Linux fragmentation" became "common knowledge" for a lot a of people who simply didn't know any better. This is why you still see people talking about how difficult Linux is to install and use and how you can't get anything done without the command line even though this hasn't been true for over a decade.

Especially since it reflects perfectly other desktop, client and browser statistics. Yes, yes we wonder.
Eh, it's been known for years that Linux is underrepresented in automated surveys.
