As a side-note, it's quite interesting to see that even Microsoft see the OSI as the go-to for proper open source licenses.
Note that Microsoft (and GitHub) are both OSI “Maintainer”-level sponsors [External Link], meaning they each granted the OSI 10 000 USD (per year, I guess).

I'm always suspicious of things like this. What is Microsoft's intent?

Quoting: Mountain ManEpic's opinion of Linux is made clear in the fact that Fortnite does not have a native Linux version. Not that I have any interest in Fortnite, but it is Epic's biggest game at the moment and the only one they are actively developing. There's also the fact that while Unreal Engine technically does have Linux support, it lags far behind Windows (you have to compile the source code yourself!).
They're also actively developing Rumbleverse too. And EAC, and Unreal 4/5, and overseeing Rocket League and Fall Guys.

Epic's opinion of Linux has always been that they support it, its comments like these just try to downplay this because it's easier to be negative toward the company than even giving them a little credit where its due.

Also, unless i'm missing something here, isn't the base source code for UE4's code the exact same as it would be for Windows? If anything, that makes it more up to date than the precompiled versions you'd use on Windows/ MacOS otherwise.

Don't get me wrong, Epic really should do precompiled versions of UE4 and 5 for the popular Linux flavors too.
Epic Game Store doesn't have a Linux version. None of the games they sell are for Linux, nor do they offer their own solution for Linux compatibility like Valve's Proton. Their biggest game has no Linux version. And asking Linux customers to compile their own source code of Unreal Engine with all the complications and pitfalls that are inherent to such a process can hardly be counted as meaningful support when Windows users can simply download the binary and be done with it. I'm also not sure how Epic "overseeing" other projects that also don't have any kind of Linux support helps your argument. When you say that they "support Linux", I think what you mean is that they pay lip service to supporting Linux without actually supporting it.

Bottom line: By their actions, Epic, like GoG, is telling us they really don't care if they have any Linux customers or not.

Usually I would agree, but in this case doing "something" is almost required.
This is not just the usual "we stand for diversity! *implements gender toggle without any effect to get headlines written about how great allies they are*" identity politics garbage, but a problem that is actually real.

In the current situation, releasing anything Russia themed, even as innocuous as a truck sim DLC, will be putting a very big elephant in the room.
And elephants in the room are always better off addressed and dealt with.

If this particular course of action, stopping the DLC entirely, is the best course of action is a different debate.
I agree with the notion that they should've released the DLC and given the profits to some Ukraine-themed charity, at least assuming it was almost done anyway.

On the other hand, you have real people working on this.
If I currently had to work on a product that basically made me create a model of Russia in some form or another, I would not feel good about it, either, not in the slightest. This might have been a decision meant in favor of the devs themselves more than a PR one.
Russia is a do-not-touch topic right now, and will remain so for many years to come. Tragic in all regards, but it is what it is.
I would respect the developer a lot more if they went ahead and released the DLC and told people who misconstrued it as support for the invasion to get a grip.

Quoting: brokkrWhile I enjoyed the landscape painting, I never really connected with it as a strategy game. Couldn't spot how my choices impacted things - or if they did. Ended up just trying to do pretty towns for a while before giving up.
Same. The game looks great I just didn't have fun playing it.

SimCity 2000 was really fun and I think it was because it wasn't so complicated and you could actually tell what was going on.
SimCity 4 was my long time favorite. I really liked the regions feature, where you could have connected cities that shared resources. I once created a city called Trash Town that was literally nothing but smog belching power plants and garbage dumps, then I created a neighbor city that was super clean because it got all of its electricity from and sent all of its garbage to Trash Town

Quoting: Mountain ManIt should be obvious by now that GoG simply doesn't care if Linux users buy from them or not.
I know but I can always hope.
why would you want to give anyone your money that lacks the care in the world about you. they don't want your money so why fight to give it to them thats insanity
The other thing is why would you want to give your money to a company which can shutdown their servers overnight and you lose all of your rented games? On gog I can buy the games and download them to my hdd and if gog goes bankrupt I still have access to the stuff I paid for and can install and play all the games (even if gog is long gone).
We will always have access to our games through - ahem - unofficial means.

Available for Linux on Steam. For GOG it does not have the Linux build.
Sadly I just assume that at this point... C'mon GoG, I'm literally trying to give you my money here.
It should be obvious by now that GoG simply doesn't care if Linux users buy from them or not. So take your business to Steam. Not DRM free, but at least you know Valve actually cares about Linux.
