I'm reminded of the quote from the movie TRON:
"Won't that be grand, the computers will start thinking, and the people will stop!"
That movie came out in 1982. Talk about prophetic.

I think ray tracing is largely a gimmick at the moment. The biggest difference in most games between max settings and max settings with ray tracing is watching your average frame rate take a dive when you use the latter with little in the way of significant visual improvement. I suppose we'll eventually get to a point when ray tracing is obviously superior without the performance penalty, but we're not there yet.
Nintendo get another problematic patent in their fight against Palworld for summoning characters

Summoning a character to fight for you has been a game mechanic for decades with countless examples of prior art. There is no way Nintendo should have been granted this patent. It's absurd.
I've been a Nintendo fanboy for many years, but some of their recent actions make it very hard to like them. I miss the days when we had the dynamic trio of Iwata, Miyamato, and Reggie

I wrote many a simple program and game using BASIC on my Commodore 64 and 128. I tried learning machine language at one point but found it incomprehensible.

Immutable base seems like a great idea - I spend way too much time trying to recover from a broken update...Either you are doing something horribly wrong, or you need to find a better distro. I haven't had my operating system break doing a simple update since I stopped using Gentoo two-decades ago, which, at the time, was notorious for that sort of thing.

Finally! This is my all time favorite LEGO game, so I'm glad to see it has been updated to work in Linux without requiring janky workarounds.

It's hard to believe there was a time when Voyager was considered the worst of Star Trek, but after the Star Trek slop that has been released over the past couple decades, it now looks like one of the classics.
Although I'm wondering if the developers chose Voyager instead of the more popular original series or Next Generation, or even Deep Space 9, because the license was cheaper.

There's something I find charming about the retro-future aesthetic, perhaps because the actual future is quite boring compared to what was imagined a century ago.
This game looks pretty neat, and seeing the MicroProse logo hits me right in the nostalgia. It brings back memories of the good ol' days playing Gunship and Airborne Ranger on my Commodore 64.

Yes, my kids' schools have Chromebooks that they assigned to the students, but my own kids hated them because they were so slow and limited, so they never used them.
