Feral confirmed that Total War: WARHAMMER II on Linux will use Vulkan

That's great! Total Warhammer runs pretty good all things considered, although it can chug on complex maps. It'd be great if Vulkan could get us over such hurdles.

Quoting: HamishI have been seeing people get blown away by Linux package management for as long as I have been using it.

There is no doubt that Linux has come a long way in the last ten years, and I am glad to see that people like Jason are recognizing this and enjoying it, but I can't help but feel that it often does not get enough credit for what is has been doing well for decades.
Linux software has never been that hard to install. I mean:

./configure
make
make install

This isn't rocket science. The problem is that people seem to have an irrational fear of the command line.

Quoting: Mountain ManMy wife recently bought a new laptop with Windows preinstalled. I spent a couple of hours uninstalling all the junk software that it came with and configuring the OS so that she could use it.

I had another older computer that needed a fresh OS install, so I put KDE Neon on it. The whole process from start to finish took about 30-minutes, and it "just worked".

I hate Windows.
Couldn't you have just wiped the computer and installed Windows from scratch? The fresh installs don't have any of the manufacturers bloatware. I personally dislike the invasive data collection, having antivirus software, and miss the linux command line when I use Windows but it's stuff all non-linux users are completely accustomed with.

Anyway, the stuff Windows has historically beaten linux hands down on are actively being worked on so hopefully the linux desktop will eventually catch on. Honestly, the last things linux needs to really take off are more OEM's willing to preload it, support for apps that keep people constrained to windows like Office and the adobe suite, and maybe its own exclusive killer apps.
Systems that come with Windows preinstalled are usually loaded up with junk, plus the usual Windows nonsense of endless updates and multiple reboots as soon as you turn the damn thing on and the constant annoyance of "Hey, I see you changed a default application. Are you sure you don't want to use the Microsoft version instead?" At one point I even asked my wife if she would just let me wipe the hard drive and install Linux instead, but she wouldn't let me because there are one or programs that she uses that are Windows only, and she really doesn't like the idea of learning how to use the Linux alternatives.

Quoting: PatolaAnd the developer asked for this type of feedback.
Yes, and that's why I said I really don't understand this attitude from developers. Of course there are Linux gamers who will be interested in his game if he makes it for our preferred OS. It's a question that doesn't need to be asked.

Quoting: PatolaDon't be so grumpy.
Sorry, cynicism and sarcasm are my default modes. :D

Never mind the fact that the majority of potential customers will never even see let alone respond to that thread, so it's a very poor way to gauge player interest.

Like I said, if they support Linux then great. If not, there are other developers who will be happy to take my money. No hard feelings on my part. Just telling it like it is. ^_^

I still don't get this attitude. Of course there are people on Linux who will be interested. Why wouldn't there be? If developers did their jobs right and targeted cross platform from day one then releasing a Linux version wouldn't be a big deal. Seriously, the Linux gaming market has matured way past the point where we should be begging for developers to support us. If they make a Linux version, great. If they don't, it's their loss. There are plenty of other games for us to choose from.

The Windows version is still on schedule for the 18th and then all hands are on deck to get the Mac and Linux versions out as fast as we can.
Pretty clearly sounds like it won't be a day-1 release to me! So their hands are not on deck now, but will be after the Windows release. Sad we won't be getting it day-1 but oh well, hopefully it'll be a good game!
I'm too cynical to believe there'll be a Linux version until I see the "Buy" button on Steam. How many times have we heard, "We'll get to the Linux version right after the Windows release!" followed by "We'll get to the Linux version right after we spend the next couple of months releasing critical patches for the Windows version!" followed by "We'll consider looking into the Linux release just as soon as we're done with this DLC for Windows!" followed by "The Linux version is being delayed because we've hit some technical snags!" and then finally, 18-months later, "We're suspending development of the Linux version due to lack of interest. But thanks to everybody who donated to our crowd funding campaigns! Our Windows customers are thrilled with their game!"

I'm confused by the trailer. A disclaimer at the start says, "Contains gameplay and non-gameplay footage", but the trailer itself never identifies which footage is which.

Quoting: GuestThere's a google doc that someone sent me, very extensive list too

The list doesn't seem particularly accurate. It claims that Arkham City works perfectly, but I can't even get it to start.
