For an "action RPG", that trailer doesn't feature much action.

Fictorum, the action RPG with destructible environments looks like it's now on the way to Linux

Looks very interesting. It's intriguing that you start out as a full-powered mage instead of having to progressively develop your character. It's such a break from gaming tradition that I'm curious how it's going to work in practice. It's currently showing "Mixed" reviews on Steam. The most common complaint is that there's not a lot of substance to it, and the novelty of it all wears thin after a couple of hours.

Quoting: EMO GANGSTERsweet another free game
Yeah, I've gotten so many free games from one source or another over the past couple of years that it's almost silly to spend money on them any more. My Steam library is so large at this point that it's unlikely that I'll ever play every game in it.

Quoting: Purple Library Guy...or, hate to say it, the GIMP for Photoshop.
I actually prefer the GIMP to Photoshop, although admittedly I am not a graphic design professional. When it comes to post-processing my photos, I find that it produces results just as good as anything I've done with Photoshop. Plus, you can't beat the price, especially when you consider Adobe's onerous subscription model that effectively locks your intellectual property behind a paywall.
I don't doubt that the GIMP is really good. But at the professional level it seems image fiddling is dominated by various proprietary schemes which the GIMP can't pay to use--or at least, that's how it was for a number of crucial years in the early evolution of Linux. And certain famous features of its UI (which, again, have changed rather these days) were very much of an acquired taste by all accounts. Between those things and a few others, the GIMP was just not as workable a substitute for Photoshop (to a lot of Photoshop users), as OpenOffice was for Office.
GIMP is a lot better than it used to be to the point that I think it's a viable alternative to Photoshop, assuming you don't rely on some of Photoshop's proprietary features.

A small update on the status of BATTLETECH for Linux

I wonder what the difficulty is, exactly? Is it the Unity Engine itself, or did they use some proprietary middleware that is poorly/not supported for Linux?

Are you as excited as I am about the news of Sir Patrick Stewart returning as Jean-Luc Picard in a new Star Trek series?
Holy crap, I hadn't heard about that. That's awesome.

Not surprising. This developer has been on shaky ground with Linux pretty much since the Kickstarter campaign when they reached the donation threshold for Linux support but then began hinting that they may not release a Linux version anyway. They're also cheapskates, planning a physical release of the Banner Saga Trilogy on the Nintendo Switch but using the less expensive low-capacity cartridges and forcing users to download a large portion of the product through the eshop. This is not a developer I plan to support in any way, shape, or form.

Quoting: GuestGreat news. The sad thing with this game is that it works PERFECTLY under WINE, so many Linux gamers like myself already play it and we get counted as "Windows" players.
Let's hope you're in the extreme minority, otherwise you and everybody else who did the same will screw Linux with the appearance of low sales.
