Quoting: FredOAbout DOOM, if "they" wanted to bring it to Linux, then it would surely be done in-house by ID Software. After-all the engine is based on OpenGL (and Vulkan support has been shown too), and Doom3 had a Linux client released by them too. I think Doom is stopped by marketing/sales only.iD of today doesn't have much in common with the iD from ten years ago.

Quoting: jf33That's such a shame. I don't care about multiplayer and achievements. The original idea of gaming on a PC was to be independent from vendors (in contrast to consoles). The point of using Linux instead of Windows is being independent. Now everything depends on the Steam platform - both the gamers and the game devs/publishers depend on Valve. This is crazy.I'm not going to argue with you about your stance on DRM, I felt similarly at one point in time. However, I think it's pretty obvious that both Valve and Feral care a good deal more about the linux gaming community than GoG does. I'd like to get on board with GoG and I have a decent sized library over there, but I haven't bought anything through them in a while and I make it a point not to just because we're very much an afterthought for them.
But thank you for being so honest at least. Will spend my money on something different then.

Quoting: STiATI want DiRT Rally :-(The most plausible theory right now about the latest item to appear on the radar is that it's Dirt Rally :) Makes sense since they've already done the heavy lifting of porting the rendering engine.

Quoting: KeyrockWhich was not long after Zenimax bought them. Carmack had a slight fetish for linux 15-20 years ago, but by this time his daydreaming time was spent on rocket ships.Quoting: Mountain ManMore specifically, when Timothee "TTimo" Besset left.Quoting: EKRboiEDIT* sorry for the tread jack... but i'm SUPER excited! Not necessarily for this particular game... but it's certainly news that it DOES run on Vulkan!Sorry, but id stopped giving a crap about Linux around the time that Rage was released.
So word on the streets is that Doom CAN and IS running on Vulkan!!! *itshappening.gif*!!!

Quoting: TealI get that beggars cannot be choosers but this game has user rating of 39% on Steam, and "recent" user rating of 50% (Steam overall average across all games ever is like 76%).I'll buy it because I love racing sims and it will be the first F1 sim on our platform. Also, if I'm not mistaken quite a few of the negative reviews are from 'subscribers' to the series, people who buy every new iteration of the game, who didn't like the changes from the prior year. Those reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt since they aren't reviewing the game, they're just comparing it to another game that they're already used to.

The pixel art for the character sprites won't lend itself very well to static screenshots, but the animation looks really well done. Looks like another title I'll pick up eventually.

Quoting: Mountain ManI'm honestly surprised we haven't seen to many hack 'n slash type games with the same quality and depth.Have you tried Path of Exile? Sadly windows-only but in my opinion it is what Diablo III should have been all along (haven't played D3 in years though).

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTI guess it's Tomb Raider. Still I do wonder why they port the old game instead of the latest title. What's the idea of porting older games, when you could also port recent ones?I find myself not buying day 0 releases because I despise the DLC model that's prevalent with AAA titles right now, then I feel guilty about it (but still don't purchase). I'd just as soon have the best AAA from a couple of years back that have 'complete' editions TBH.

Coming to this party late but I downloaded it during the free play weekend and gave it a whirl. I have a conky overlay that stays on top even when gaming so it shows me some pretty useful information (IMHO) about what's happening behind the scenes in games like this. My GTX960 sat around 40% usage, and I rarely had more than 1 cpu core registering much usage. It wasn't even pegging out 1 core constantly either. It's almost like they have an internal frame limiter that isn't working like it's supposed to, causnig fluctuations (in my case) from 35-55 fps.

Quoting: adolsonThe same thing happened with Wasteland 2, did it not? I backed this because it's Torment... Though I fully expect slight disappointment, as what made the original such a hit was the characters and writing and setting, and from what I've seen, there's not going to be any of that in this new one. I still think it'll be a good game, though, and I very well could be wrong about that stuff. The original was amazing. I remember buying it off a $10 rack at a department store. I didn't know anything about it, but I saw it was based on AD&D so I thought I'd give it a go. I fired it up and thought, "A floating skull? How cheesy." Played for a bit, died, ended up waking up back at the mortuary and being surprised that the game handled this event smoothly as something that was supposed to happen. After a couple of hours I was starting to get that feeling that I was playing something special. By the end I was in awe of how good the story was, and how effective the game had been at transferring me into the role of the Nameless One. I've never played another RPG that was able to immerse me like PST.
It is annoying that Kickstarted games go available to the general public earlier than some backers could get the game, but oh well, whatever. I don't Kickstart things anymore, so that annoyance will end for me before too long.
