Quoting: GuestThere are 2 vastly different things when we talk about "stability":

1) Stability in terms of software not crashing/freezing/bugging.

2) Stability in terms of software libraries/APIs/frameworks/software in general remaining the same (= stable) in order for app/game developers to know what to target for and not need to care about fixing incompatibilities with future upstream versions.

Debian is stable in terms of (2), not always in terms of (1). But people often seem to confuse the 2 and use them interchangeably in forums and discussions.

Arch derived distros are definitely stable in terms of (1). Following upstream means getting fixes for bugs and problems sooner. Yes it does break stuff that should work with earlier versions and it does require by devs to not rest on their laurels and support/maintain their code, but it is better than freezing the whole software base for 2 years just to make sure lazy devs can write their code and work without them having to modify it in the future.
I disagree. Debian package maintainers do the best job (in my opinion) of vetting the packages that make it into their repository. Almost everything works exactly how it should almost all of the time with Debian. Arch is just a tech toy and things will break or not work as intended daily update to daily update.

Quoting: PatolaSeems that recent protondb reports [External Link] have not been approved yet (sometimes the approvers take they time and they take a few days or even weeks to be published), can anyone who bought the game say if it runs OK with proton at this time?
Somebody said it runs good in proton (over on the reddit thread regarding this I believe).

Also broke the text in the "Add A Game->Activate a Product on Steam . . ." first dialog.

We might actually see a rough Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation beta for Linux soon

Quoting: KandarihuIf all of this "industry interest in Linux" is just for the sake of games-as-a-service systems like Stadia, then they've been using us all along. I have been supporting Linux gaming for the sake of increasing freedom for the consumer, not for pushing some unaccountable streaming system where the publisher has absolute control over every individual instance of the game. If we want to see gaming on our own desktops, we need to amend our cries.
We want to play games on OUR Linux desktops, not THEIR servers!
Yeah the whole games as a service thing sucks. On the other hand, anything that drives developers to developing for linux is an overall positive thing.

Some thoughts on Gravel from Milestone, the 'ultimate off-road experience' tested

Hmm. I purchased it and played for a little bit and I didn't run into any kind of stuttering/performance issue until the Alaska map, which was just consistently down in the mid 20s framerate-wise. The movies and menus were definitely smooth. My PC is lower spec than yours by a fair bit as well (i7-2600 w/ 3gb gtx 1060). I actually do like the gameplay. The controls feel a lot better to me than the codemaster titles.

I'll fire it up on my wife's PC tonight and see what happens. She's running a different distro (Deepin vs. Gentoo) but with nearly identical hardware.

Quoting: queriaIn my case it was enough enabling just for main interface (like eth0 / def. route ...).
Trying just loopback was not enough (and is not needed in my case either).

Also some other info about this in https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/ah8zyl/anyone_else_had_problems_downloading_games_since/ [External Link]
Oof. I disabled it years ago (Arch, of course), and now I can't seem to re-enable it. I thought it would be a simple case of deleting the bit in the kernel command line but no, I must have been more thorough than that. Grr. :><: Stupid past-me.
Well, it's a bug that Valve needs to fix. If IPV6 fails, it should fall back to IPV4. I will be pretty grumpy if this makes it into the non-beta client, as I have IPV6 compiled out of my kernel and don't particularly want to add it back in.

Paradox Interactive have purchased the rights to Prison Architect from Introversion

Quoting: pbSo much for free updates, welcome a swarm of dlc.
Well, if they were looking to sell the IP, they were probably about done with free updates anyway. I really dislike DLC as a whole, but Paradox and their games are one company from whom I don't mind them. Buy them if you want to keep seeing a game developed, don't buy them if you don't want to or already like the game as it is. The type of games they typically release can potentially provide thousands of hours of gameplay and I'd rather keep a title alive through occassional optional DLCs than what EA does with their sports franchises.

Feral Interactive are teasing another Linux port

You guys obviously have not watched much Dora the Explorer, where the phrase "Where are we going?" is sung in every episode. There's one episode in particular that features a pegasus. Therefore they're obviously working on an original IP:

There's been a lot of 50% off coupons floating around for this game that expire tomorrow. I've seen a lot given away on the game's steam forum.
