Quoting: ShmerlWhy no full release on itch.io if they already released their demo there?
This is surprisingly common for some reason. Too many devs treat itch.io as a trash bin for their production iterations.

A statement from HOF Studios about the Depth of Extinction Steam key removal, plus thoughts

I do not fault the developer so much as I fault the Steam platform for facilitating the ability for a buyer's game to be removed from their "possession". In a fit of emotional consternation, the DoE dev simply abused a DRM functionality.

Quoting: chancho_zombieEven Gabe Newell knows that DRM is a bad thing, it doesn't add anything positive. Hope one day steam makes the move of being DRM free. But let's face it DRM is still there because devs and specially companies are control freak outs, publishers and devs won't be happy if steam removes DRM. This whole thing is a ethical problem and the same happens with linux distribution, between ethical and being able to play a mp3, I choose the second. Same happens with games, lots of games wouldn't exist if DRM was banned, but still I would be demanding for devs to remove DRM when possible.
And if someone removed a game from my library I would download the torrent, that's not stealing that's someone else stealing u.
Yeah, but now the MP3 format is open! ^_^
Yes, I was just going to say the patents finally expired a few months ago.

Quoting: chancho_zombiehope the vulkan plans are multi gpu support, there are no games with multi gpu on linux, my second gpu is eager for some action.
I have been wanting to play around with this ever since Mantle ushered in the new API race. My work has left me with dozens of add in cards laying around crying out to be vulkanized.

But the whole Left 4 Dead 1 is included into Left 4 Dead 2.
Eh it's one of those things that would have been nice for the sake of completeness. How different, architecturally, is L4D1 from L4D2?

And is it possible to support the devs without paying a Steam tax? Just when there are real alternatives to buy PCs without the MS tax.
Hi ! We're working on a Itch.io release, and we've also been in contact with GOG. We'll have more on this in a few days, right now Steam is the way to go.
I could have sworn I'd seen Helium Rain on itch in the past. Was an early build once there? Or am I just losing my mind?

Does this mean we can firmly put the "Embrace, extend, and extinguish" phrase to rest and replace it with Embrace, extend, and protect?
