Quoting: LordpkappaStill no problem here with 375.20.It seems that the common denominator is the use of Plasma or a DE that uses Open GL. What is your desktop?
No crash or rendering errors, but i have only 2 games right now in the system, Dawn Of War 2 with expansion and Rocket League.

Looks like quality control at Nvidia is decreasing. A few days ago they released a broken driver on Windows as well (not that it affected me :P). Here a stable Linux driver that cannot start recent AAA games with mainstream cards on popular desktop environment. Wow!

Quoting: Avehicle7887This seems to affect only those who open multiple OpenGL windows as I've been using the driver the whole day and I haven't encountered any other issues.I am using Plasma/KDE5 but do not use multiple OGL windows when launching Steam. This is strange.

Could it be that it affects KDE5/Plasma users while composite/OpenGL effects are on? The reported bug says it happens when there are several OGL apps working. Xpander, you report you do not have this issue and you use MATE desktop environment. Could I be onto something there?
I will try KDE after deactivating the effects to see if this fixes the issue.
EDIT: deactivating compositor in KDE does not fix the issue. Does not mean that OGL is not running anyway. For instance, SDDM crashes when trying to logout from KDE. This driver leads to some peculiar issues.

I think the issue with 375.20, which only affect a specific number of users (GTX970/980?), has been reported to nvidia devs here: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/977518/problems-with-multiple-opengl-applications-running-simultaneously-with-375-20-on-a-gtx970/?offset=2 [External Link]. Hopefully they will provide a fix quickly.

Quoting: koyal13I recently update on Arch to this version... but I found a lot of games where appear freezes, bad renders and some suddenly "black textures". All are old problems that we have seen in the past, but I'm discovering on games like Grid Autosport, Mad Max and many of my best games (right now I cant try Deus).Yes, same for me, broke Deus Ex and Shadow of Mordor (did not try other games). Shadow of Mordor looks like a slideshow. This is with a Skylake CPU (6700K) and an EVGA GTX970, Linux arch 4.8.8-2-ARCH. Downgrading to 375.10 fixed the issue.
Very bad update for me...

Quoting: omer666I've got 16GB too and I completely disable swap.Well, I have continued to play a few hours, and I cannot reproduce the massive FPS drop anymore... Memory consumption is around 12GB out of 16GB, and this is using High or Very High settings. However I have a consistent FPS drop if I stay too long on the Praxis menu. For some reason, after I attribute points, I drop from ~40-50 to 12-18 fps when I exit that menu. No swapping detected, I am still around 12GB consumed...

Furthermore, I have tweaked my swappiness, since I have 16GB RAM on that machine, hence:
vm.swappiness=1 #<- that one prevents using SWAP to the minimum
vm.vfs_cache_pressure=50 #<- that one could be tweaked a little more I guess.
This is on Archlinux. I do not see the 16GB RAM being entirely consumed, but I may need to monitor this more closely.
Maybe there could be some kernel tweaking to do.

Quoting: EhvisHow full is the HD? Is it heavily fragmented? This can also seriously affect HD performance. Even SSDs can have variable performance. Not full at all, and not fragmented. It is a new drive, a 7200rpm 2.5" Hitachi on SATA-3.
If it is an engine issue, then it is an interesting one. IIRC, the whole Batman Arkham Knight disaster was also related to problems in the streaming system. It is even more interesting if you realise that the problems appeared on PC and not consoles even though consoles have the slower hardware.

I have a GTX970 and experience severe FPS drops from time to time, going from a very comfortable ~50 fps to 12 and sometimes 1-2 fps! This coincides with the HDD light being constantly on, suggesting the game is busy loading data (my HDD is quite fast, this is not a problem). I have started to lower settings (such as texture details, etc) to try to fix this, but still get these frame drops.
I looked in the Steam forum and saw that people have reported the same issue under Windows, even with SSDs, suggesting this may be an engine issue here. Also, the game has been patched quite a lot on Windows, what is the version on Linux?
Have you got suggestions on which settings to change in priority to lower the I/O access? Thanks in advance.

Quoting: edddeduckferalThank you, the size looks fine now :)Quoting: zebHowever, disk usage is only 16 GB. Cache validation is successful. Could it be a Steam issue?Quoting: WorMzyThat's the same size as my Deus Ex download, so looks like that might be the problem! I'll update my ticket with the information requested. Thanks with your info I think I've fixed that for you and everyone else with the same setup :) Just restart the Steam client and you should get a ~30GB download :)
