Plasma 5.21 Beta is out and it's a thing of beauty, towards first-class Wayland support

Quoting: fagnerlnI had issues with Dolphin, I had a folder that crashes it, I don't know why, Nautilus, Nemo and Thunar opens it without problem. Had issues with baloo, sometimes works, but sometimes simply don't find anything and I had to recreate the database to maybe work. Discover which is IMO a bad joke as Gnome Software. And the most annoying is the theme support, Breeze is ok, but if change anything, it will appear some bug, mostly on GTK apps.
I find Dolphin the most powerful file manager in the linux world. I have tried working with other desktop environments (I try to be agnostic) but Dolphin is the main thing that prevents any long-term move. I haven't really had any issues with Dolphin for years and years.

My KDE themes all work seamlessly between GTK and QT apps. I do admit, though, that I don't use Baloo and I always uninstall Discover and just use Synaptic.

Quoting: ronnocI love the fact that, although I could use the command line for updates, Discover actually connects to the KDE Store - so it not only updates normal packages, it also updates the Snaps, Flatpaks, and theme and icon sets. Even wallpapers. It's truly a value add and just one example of why KDE is just amazing.
Interesting. Maybe I should try it out again. It has been a number of years.

Quoting: fagnerlnThis twilight theme is really beautiful! KDE breaks a bit too much IMO, but I'm for sure will try this with Wayland
I am curious, which things break for you? I run the stable Plasma 5.18 that comes with KDE Neon LTS and it seems pretty solid to me.

GOG has a huge sale on RPGs and sees the return of the classic Moonstone

Quoting: ArehandoroFun fact: Arcanum, and Fallout: New Vegas are the only 2 RPGs I know of that can be finished without fighting a single time.
Not strictly an RPG, but I did just finish Dishonored without killing anyone or even being detected. We need more of those kinds of options (as long as they are well-written).

Not just for gamers though, this could be a pretty valuable tool for developers to test their games too.
I think this is the real reason. I have seen a number of small devs post comments like "I don't have a linux machine" in answer to questions about porting games (or fixing the games they already ported). If it is super easy to plug in a USB drive and have an instant test environment, it would make many of those excuses go away.
TGhere are plenty of USB distro's out there, Puppy is one, but one set up for gaming and game devs to use would be good
If you read the announcement, it has auto-updating of the OS on the USB. It has been a while since I have used a live-distro, but I don't remember any kind of serious update feature. This would be very important for devs.

I still don't know why everyone is mocking the USB idea as if it is aimed at gamers. I think that is going to be a side audience to the real target: indie developers who are scared to install a linux partition.

A true love-letter to the classic metroidvanias!
Very true - a gem not to be missed.

I am glad that they still have a strong community around the game. Sadly, I am not a speedrunner so this doesn't do much for me personally. Still, cool to see.

How good is Wine?
How good is Wine? Wine is a goddamn miracle.

It may not be perfect but, when it works, it is nothing but amazing.

Getting Linux running properly on Apple M1 Silicon has begun with Asahi Linux

We are a split Linux/MacOS household. I am 95% on Linux but other family members use Mac laptops quite a bit. I won't buy another Mac until I know that Linux will run on it when support for MacOS runs out.

I want to decide when to retire my hardware, not let Apple do it. Ironically, if Apple supported this project they would increase sales for their hardware.

KDE will hopefully have a 'Production-ready' Wayland session for Plasma in 2021

Looking forward to trying it out. In the meantime, KDE/Plasma on X still runs perfectly for me so I am not in a rush.
