'The Dweller' is a short and minimalistic but incredibly fun and solid puzzler that I highly recommend

I picked this up around the Xmas sale. I haven't finished it yet, but it is very clever. Well worth the crazy low price.

(I agree with g000h, BitBlaster is also a great little gem).

Interview with Aspyr Media about porting Civilization VI to Linux and other interesting questions

Great interview, Liam!

Aspyr don't have a big catalogue of ports, but if I look at my library, sitting at or near the top are:

Borderlands 2
Borderlands TPS
Civ V
KOTOR 2

These have some of the highest playtime hours of anything I own. Total respect.

Edit: While we are making our Aspyr wishlists, I would say Borderlands 1 and KOTOR 1, please!

Game comment: This has been on my wishlist, but it hasn't made it to the top yet. Thanks for the quick video, it looks like the hard-but-fair style I quite like.

KDE comment: I have only ever used KDE (4 & now 5) for gaming on linux and haven't encountered any real windowing problems. However, I only have a single monitor so there is a whole class of bugs I won't see. One thing I love is the ability to manually turn off compositing. Also, Plasma now does it automatically for more things.

Controller comment: I adore my steam controller for FPS and anything where mouse control can be integrated with the thumbstick. However, I keep an ancient wired PS2 controller around (with USB adapter) which serves as my platformer fallback. Sometimes you really need two thumbsticks. Sometimes you really need a D-pad. I still have no idea what the left touchpad on the Steam controller is actually any good for.

Hmmm. I am very patient and I reserve judgment on every game until it is out and reviewed. I almost never succumb to hype. But... damn. That got me interested! I really really hope they pull it off.

Quoting: Frank DrebinPardon my noobish question but I have Ubuntu 16.04 and the game requires 16.10. Is there a chance I could run the game on 16.04? I don't feel like upgrading my perfectly working OS because of one game...
It sounds like others are optimistic, but it would be nice to have clarification from Feral. Xenial can use the 4.8 kernel (hwe), but different libraries may be a stretch.

For me, there is exactly 0% chance I am going to upgrade from a 16.04 LTE base (neon) until 18.04.1 LTE is out.

EDIT: Liam, it might be an interesting survey question for the ubuntu-based distributions, for users to enter the version they are running. Perhaps that would be useful info for developers.

Looks like Killing Floor 2 may be coming to Linux from Knockout Games

It isn't my style of game, but I am glad to see Aaron still doing more ports!

Quoting: Corben...this game is a masterpiece. Thanks to Renaud Bédard and Ethan Lee we have a flawless Linux version, and this game is really fun to play.
Completely agreed! I wish I could wipe my memory and play it again fresh.

The Linux GOTY award is now over, here are the results!

Well done Feral on taking the dev award, earned through hard work! I did vote for Ethan Lee, though :-)

Lots of very deserving games, projects, and devs in the lists. It was a great year for Linux gaming and we all came out winners.

Dead Cells, a roguelike and castlevania-inspired action-platformer looks amazing and heading to Linux
27 Jan 2017 at 6:16 pm UTC

This is so strange. I always associate Metroidvania as being the exact opposite of Rogue-Like. The former requires a persistent world to explore and obstacles to come back to when your character has found the next power. Perma-death and procedural generation make no sense here.

The Linux GOTY award is now open for voting

Quoting: PicoboomI was a bit saddened that my favorite gaming related FOSS project --- sc-controller --- wasn't a nominee, though I suppose that's because it's written in Python.
You should have nominated it! Python is not a disqualification...
