Quoting: SpirimintDo i get i right? This can solve Problems with DirectX9?Instead of "Settlers 2" you could also play "Return to the Roots". It's a Open Source implementation of the game and it does run very well and plays like Settlers II.
Games with DirectX9 still not running very good in my System.
Still trying to get Anno 1404 and Settlers 2 to get work.

Quoting: BrisseActually the OpenGL Linux version has less good graphics. Still it runs pretty good for me... but the performance of the ("native") port is supposed to be worse then with Proton. I did not compare that yet.Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoYes. Metro run MUCH better via forced Proton.Wierd. I was under the impression that the native Linux version ran the same as the Windows version. I wonder how Proton compares to the Windows version then. Maybe I'm just wrong....

I'm waiting for the release! I think it's good that the release is later since the game seems to be a bug fest at the moment.

Quoting: edmondoThis! <3Quoting: etonbearsJust a shame they are not building multiplatform by default, since X4 does not seem to be playable under wine. They made the early decision to be Vulkan only, that to be multiplatform.

Steam Play versus Linux Version, a little performance comparison and more thoughts

- The Linux so-called "native games" are not really native but wrapped. eON and also Feral Ports are semi-native.
- The games are mostly not well optimized since Linux has a small market share.
- The Linux games are just ports, they should be cross-platform developed in the first place instead of being ported.
- Devs just get used to OpenGL, Vulkan and Linux - they still need more best practices how to set up their build systems and debug performance regressions.
Is this enough for a first idea what could be wrong?
PS: I'm sad, too, this is the case.

Quoting: thykrIt baffles me that non-native is much faster than native. Most of the time because it's ....
I really hope someday some smart software engineers will be able to explain why it is that way.

Quoting: GuestDXVK can let non-native use Vulkan instead, which can be more properly threaded. This! As well.

Quoting: 14True. Unfortunately I don't buy any games that are not finished being developed. Including buggy released games.Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?Whew. That's a long wait.
