Mhh rendering performance is not of much interest for me. Of course compiling would benefit from 8 fast cores but it's no improvement for gaming. I'll stick to my 3570k. Whenever I need to upgrade my rig it will be AMD if it's at least somehow competetive.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know only Steam Sales played on Linux will be count as a Linux Sale. At least by Steam. I had the same question when I was considering buying boxed versions of games. For sure, this system sucks.

Hey Guys :)
I read nouveau also has nvenc support nowadays, it's just not advertised. Is that true? Is it possible to game with a RX 480 (amdgpu + Mesa) and use a nVidia GT 630 (nouveau + Mesa) for recording in OBS? How would I manage to configure this?

There is a guy from Youtube [0] that compiled the 4.7 kernel + DAL for Arch [1]. I did not try it yet but he said audio over HDMI is working. Since I don't have FreeSync displays I can't check if that is working.
Please keep in mind it's a pre-compiled kernel - use it at your own risk. I don't garantuee it's virus free since I don't know that guy.

FreeSync is coming to Linux - and as mentioned above several times, they might get it up and running with the DC code within the 4.12 merge window.
AMD sent out those patches several times in the past but it got rejected by the kernel developers for some good reason: The code is messy and bloated. They slimmed it down quite heavily already and sent it in again. In the end AMDGPU and AMDGPU-PRO will benefit from the recent code refactoring.

In theory, you're quite right! But did this ever work for someone in reality? Xserver should also be capable of that. But how to make use of it? Having a gaming server somewhere and steaming games somewhere else would be a possibility. Nowadays that's achieved by redirecting the input but compressing the game to a h.264 video like what Steam does. It really isn't an option to me since it does not feel native at all.

This can also be important for a set of systems designed to render stuff and then send the output somewhere else, they probably wouldn't be using X11 at all.
