Quoting: 5had0w5talk3rLuckily, I have somewhat up-to-date pictures of my setup on imgur, so I threw together an album [External Link] with some of them.Apart from the fact I do love your beautiful (I love minimalistic styles) setup I wonder where you got that glowing Arch Linux key cap from? I know it's possible to buy custom cherry mx switches - I didn't know it's possible to get transparrent ones.
If you just want a picture of my desk, here it is:

( 3840 * 2160) / (1920 * 1080) = 4 - so it's 4 times the amount of pixels! ;)
Your statement about the impact of resolution is still not true though: Yes, there's no difference in between resolution like 720p and 1080p. But 1080p vs 4k does have a big impact on performance! If you check out modern benchmarks on e.g. computerbase you'll notice that there's allmost no video card (not even 980ti, Titan X, Fury X) that can handle modern (windows) games in 4k resolution with modest frame rates (=> 60 FPS). One reason is the amount of video memory (even cards with 8 GB of VRAM can ran out of it) as well as the lack of raw performance.
Quoting: BeamboomFirstly, a correction to your numbers. HD is 1920x1080. 4k is NOT 8xHD pixels - 4K resolutions are typically 3840x2160, despite the implication that 4K has 4000 vertical lines. 4k has 4xHD pixels.Quoting: maodzedunWhere does the bottleneck come from, though? There is about 20% performance difference between 1080p and 4K which makes zero sense. It makes all the sense in the world? 4k is only EIGHT TIMES as many pixels to calculate and draw for each frame.

I did play Train Fever quite a bit! It is a really good game - still it has some tricky build mechanics (somtimes you mess up roads, railways, bridges etc.) and the performance is quite bet if you play the game for a long time through the ages.
If they fix the performance and bulding issues it might allready be a much better game. Also the industrial mechanics could be improved. Let's see what they're delivering!

I really don't get what's your problem, guys. I installed really a lot of linux distros on different systems. The installation always worked except for one notebook - the RAM in that one had errors which caused kernel panics. Apart from that a little bit of finetuning was needed in some cases to get wireless working with some nottebooks. But for that case: Why don't you just by hardware which is known to work oob? If I want a windows system, I do buy windows compliant hardware. If I want a linux system I should do the same for linux.
With desktops I never had any problems. Including proprietary drivers for the GPU.

If it's a single player game, why don't you just buy yourself X3 (or Rebirth, if you so derire)?
Feral Interactive are again teasing a new Linux & Mac port on their radar

I think it's Mad Max as well. I'm not at all interested in it, still it would be nice for the people that like to play it.

Quoting: NyamiouCould it ne that they are porting a Blizzard game? No, that's impossible, I must be nuts.Unfortunately you're. Blizzard would port inhouse. Still I do hope for SC II seeing the light of linux some day. TFT and Diablo III would be a nice to have extra.

I LOVE the fact they do port the game native to Linux. No wine packacking - c'mon man, it's feral! They don't deliver wine crap.
I had no problems playing Dawn of War II under Windows in Multiplayer in the past.

Open source RTS '0 A.D.' alpha 20 Timosthenes released

Atm they implement new stuff with every version, the lack of a general roadmap is a big problem though.

How do you feel about 0 A.D.?You did already answer that question by yourself:
It's easily one of the best open source projects around. In addition I'd say I always loved the game. They did fix some performance issues with the new pathfinding (last alpha) but it's still a long way to go if you want to kill lags that happen when a lot of units are on the map. Still I do feel like it will be a "forever alpha". If I'd be them I'd try to focus on a few tribes, maps and mechanics, add a small campaign and launch a nice beta - after that one is published, go for the "real release" and keep on updating the game.

While waiting for the Linux version I could recommend you playing X3 series: I do LOVE that game! It's more a simulation but also the fights are quite fun. So the plan is:
Playing X2 until EVERSPACE releases and play that one until Star Citizen will be released. :D

5oo USD seems like a very modest donation goal to me. Her in germany I'd start doing this as a full time job (studying computer since) with a reached goal of ~800 €. Still I don't know where you're from so it might be very good like that allready. :)
Thanks for keeping up the good work! If you go full time and I do have some bug's left I'm happy to donate. Atm I still have to figure out how to pay my own bills. :/
Please do keep in mind that a few high quality articles are much better then plenty mid quality ones. Quality beats quantity! ;)
