Yes they do! Still the engine is able to handle complex games as well. Oil Rush shows that! Unfortunately the game is more a showcase as well. Not that balanced and not too much fun in multiplayer - though I love the idea of it as well as the graphics!

I'm not exactly sure why we do argue about the quality of fglrx: It has never been good! I used to be a big fan of AMD but since I switched to Linux (including gaming) I sold my AMD GPU several years ago - just because of the bad driver! The hardware (HD 5850 vs GTX 560ti) was BETTER.

All in all code quality of games might be ONE reason, but it's at least not the only one. You could also see this with AMD having performance issues with D3DX11 on windows - repspective nVidia cards which should be on the same level are faster, with vulcan AMD outperforms them most of the time.

There's a reason AMD is shutting down fgrlx and is aiming for amdgpu - it already outperforms fglrx to some extend and get's closer to the Windows or resprective nVidia performance level. If you do own an AMD card, you might wait 2-3 month and check out the recent amdpu + linux kernel + mesa stack then.

It's a pitty the death animation is all the same - not according to physics. It looks a bit weird if all that big army dies.

Quoting: GuestThere's a huge difference between RTS and board or turn-based strategy. Comparing Civilization to something like Dawn of War II which is also coming out is comparing apples to oranges.

Linux hardly has any RTS games. I'm not sure about how good Cossacks 3 is, but Dawn of War II (and hopefully III as well) will be a very welcome addition to Linux gaming.
Dawn of War II isn't announced for Linux, is it? :)

Ubuntu 16.04 dropping the AMD Catalyst/fglrx driver

Well done, ATI! Closing support before you're even up with a good driver! I did miss OpenGL 4.xx support in the past, I did miss good performance, I did miss good compatibillity with wine, there've been many disgusting bugs - what's wrong with you ATI guys?

Still - ATI had better hardware most of the time but I did switch to nVidia just because of their better driver support on linux - even Linus doesn't like there closed behavior, the driver performance is good. :)

I hope Vulkan and the new driver will be a game changer! I'd love to switch back to the company I like more. Please do gimme the chance to do so!

Yes, turn based is NOT my kind of strategy to be honest! That's what I do love RTS! Actually I'm missing some kind of AAA Starcraft II replacement with a nice Multiplayer and Matchmaking - it would need to be AAA to be Competetive and having enough opponents for Quick Match.

Planetary Annihilation is somehow very special. I tried it but it's not my kind of game. Did they fix all the issues in newer versions? It was so hyped in the past but I did not enjoy playing it. Company of Heroes 2 is not my setting. I'm not into world war settings too much. Still all that counts only to me ...

I'd love to see 0a.d. making better progress. Gonna join them developing!? ;)

I do LOVE <3 RTS games! What do you mean by "another" RTS? I don't know ANY major RTS on Linux apart from the (still buggy) 0a.d. which I do love! I'm not sure though if I'll Cossacks - I just don't knot the game. I'm happy to see a day 1 release!

Arma 3 Linux port updated to 1.54 as promised

If I'm not mistaken it was that game where they did not make any promises regarding linux support in the long run? Why would I buy the game in case it will stay as a beta all it's life?

Looks like Homefront: The Revolution might not have a day-1 Linux release

I see. I just saw some Multiplayer Beta on Youtube? Is this the co-op?
