C4 Engine Drops Linux Support, Developer Says Linux Is Inferior
12 Jan 2015 at 11:13 pm UTC Likes: 3

I don't know if you guys just put up brave faces or really don't care, but this news really depressed me.

I kinda expect to see Linux support growing, not getting smaller.
It's not a big blow I know, but a blow nevertheless at least for Linux perception in general. Another good occasion for trolls to start ranting about Linux being so crappy that developers start ditching it etc.
Not so good publicity.

Quoting: TakFortunately, problems like the one you mentioned above are getting fixed as they get reported - the mouse look problems have been resolved, vsync (which was initially disabled on some WMs to work around a bug in Compiz/Unity DE) has been reënabled on all WMs, etc.
Additionally, Unity 5 takes a more SDL-like approach to gamepad support (see Fight the Dragon), meaning that things should be more likely to Just Work, and it should be easier for users to override them if they don't.
If they're fixed in the engine it doesn't reflect in the Unity games I have.
I still see the mouse look bug (more recently in Interstellar Marines were was previously working), I still can't enable vsync and the gamepad is working correctly in very, very few games.

Oh yeah, Unity is both a blessing and a curse for Linux gaming.

Blessing because we have so much more games because of it, and a curse because it rarely works as it should.
Mouse issues, vsync issues, gamepad issues, graphic issues...you name it.
And above all and the most painful, performance issues.

Every time I hear about a new Linux game I pray: please, please, please be not an Unity game, please, pretty please.....oh crap, IT IS an Unity game...

Uh, Bioshock Infinite and Borderlands 2 have been released (by Aspyr, but still), and, yes, it would be nice to play the originals of both games, but I am not complaining one bit.
I'm strictly talking about Feral here and my hope to see the initial Borderlands and Bioshock titles ported to Linux as well (like they did for Mac.)

So far I like none of their Linux ported games. Yes, they are great titles and worth porting but personally my patience with Feral is wearing thin.
I bought both games although I know I will probably never play them, just as a sign of support for their work.
But if the third game will be also a strategy game, that would be too much for me, and I'll pass paying for that one too.
Give me Borderlands, Bioshock or something similar for a change.

Edit: Oh yeah, I refreshed the page on Steam and the Tux is there.

How Steam Computes Linux Sales
10 Dec 2014 at 2:37 pm UTC

Quoting: liamdaweIf it's a Windows game, and you never play it, but it was purchased on another platform, it would default to Windows.

Same with a Windows game purchased on Linux and played in Wine. It will probably be a Windows purchase.
Still curious why Gran PC said they have several Linux sales for Stanley Parable.
