OK, probably someone will slap me on the wrist for saying this...but I have this nagging feeling that Gordon is wasting his talents lately (when porting games is concerned).
He is too good to not use his immense experience on titles with bigger impact, just saying, don't kill me.

Quoting: GuestDisappointing then, I had hopes for it (for developers use that is) since it was presented at Steam dev days and developed IIRC by Rich Geldreich. Too bad it went nowhere...Quoting: dubigrasuAll of the above, not to mention it was nigh-on impossible to build. We had to get Valve to send us binaries. Most of the time any traces we tried to get either became too large, or simply crashed VOGL/the driver when attempting to play them back.Quoting: GuestJust hope it doesnt go the same way as VOGL, which turned out to be uselessWhat's the problem with it, too limited/buggy/etc or the lack of maintenance?

Lowering the settings seem to alleviate the issue though, played on 1 for few minutes and seems OK, (ugly though).
I see a couple of (Windows?) users having the same issue: http://steamcommunity.com/app/252490/discussions/4/1470841715962625377/ [External Link]

Quoting: DarkMavrikHm, thanks. I still have this issue though, even on this server now. It seems to be happening by itself sometimes, but hitting an ore node is more likely to trigger it.Quoting: dubigrasuI had no problem killing and farming on rustafied, got a base up and all. Didn't see any issues,Quoting: DarkMavrikCan someone update the Rust server, its splashing wrong protocol to my friends and I, says server needs a update.Related to this, have you tested other servers since the update?
I can log and play on any server apparently normally, but only until I hit an ore. At the first spark the game hangs and (after killing the game) I'm unable to log in again.

I have a weird behavior regarding the anisotropic setting on my system and I'm curious if you guys see this too.
So, basically I have the anisotropic filter set to 8, but every time I start the game it reverts back to 1 (visually speaking), while the cursor still shows 8.
In order to have the anisotropic filter actually working at 8, I have to move the cursor somewhere (lower or higher, doesn't matter) and put it back again at 8. Then it works and the image is properly filtered as it should at 8, but this is true only for the current gaming session.
Next gaming session, again, the settings shows 8 while looks like 1 and so on and on.
Easy to test on patterns of a wall for example as they distance away from you.

For example, after initial launch I have only a 11MB cache for Borderlands, but 52MB for Painkiller and 104MB for Deadfall.
Yes, I remember when Leszek Godlewski released Painkiller for Linux. In early loading time takes ages especialy on AMD GPU... on NVIDIA faster but still too long...Yes, many games were having the same problem, but it was painfully obvious on these two games because they were using "an insane amount of shaders" (Leszek own words).

Interesting though, now is no longer used (as in gl-shader-cache is no longer created and the steam one used instead).

Quoting: TheBardCan the shader cache shorten the everlasting startup of Deus Ex Manking Devided ?For the very first launch, I doubt it. Feral was already using for their games a shader cache management of their own (ex: in .local/share/feral-interactive/Deus Ex Mankind Divided/driver-gl-shader-cache).

The shader cache seems to be working pretty good. At least two games were suffering greatly from these long loading times; Deadfall Adventures and Painkiller.
You'll still need to build the shader cache at the very first launch, but this time the shader cache is kept and no longer deleted when you reboot.
Borderlands 2 seem to be also benefit from this.
