Tomb Raider released for Linux, thoughts & port report included, the first Linux game to use TressFX

@GirlGamer
Yes, the game goes lower in performance later on while in real action (so it does in Windows), but I still find those numbers way off. I also find a bit suspicious what he said about differences in image quality, (because there's really no difference) and makes me think that he didn't bother too much to assure identical settings/scenes in his tests.

Well, I guess is to be expected from a Linux user (I mean me), but I don't believe those numbers.
He's also talking about differences in image quality and I didn't really see any.

Some early The Talos Principle Vulkan benchmarks
14 Apr 2016 at 5:35 am UTC

Quoting: GuestThe steam overlay is pretty bad for performance, and is really a hack job more than anything else. Plus, it has to work across the board - so it's using an ancient version of OpenGL, not even running in the same context as the application. So it's no surprise that it impacts performance so much.

I'm curious as to whether CPU usage evens out with Vulkan or not. It speaks a lot about where the improvements are really coming from.
At this moment with OpenGL the game is equally using two CPUs, while with Vulkan everything is crammed into one.

Two Worlds: Epic Edition now available for Linux in beta form, uses Wine

Quoting: dubigrasuConsider using a CSMT Wine for this game, as it can offer a greater performance (compared with the stable version they're using):

Have you informed the developer of the performance difference with the version of WINE you used?
Yes (I linked the video), and others too insisted on CSMT as a better option. He said that he will consider it:

How to tell what Steam games work on Linux & SteamOS, steamplay does not mean Linux support

Quoting: dubigrasuI'm pretty sure Valve put some thoughts into this at the time when they're changed the icon, most likely at some point they draw the line between supporting Linux gaming in general and (their own) Steamos gaming which they need to promote.

As such, if a game runs on SteamOS it will get an SteamOS icon and support, if not, it gets nothing.
Yes… But as a Linux user who will most likely never use SteamOS, it is not making me very happy.
Indeed, it wasn't a popular decision, we all love Tux and the Tux icon was ideal. I remember seeing it for the first time on Steam, got me very happy.
But from their (Valve) point of view it makes sense, and I'm sure they didn't took this decision lightly. They have a specific platform to support and promote, and if that platform gets successful, Linux gaming gets successful too.
