Tomb Raider gets its first Linux & SteamOS patch, performance improved in heavy areas

Haven't tested much but in Shanty Town on a certain place/angle where previously I had 50 FPS I have now 66-68. The same FPS difference in other similar places (I kept the old build so I can test back and forth both builds).

According to Deep Silver the new editions of Dead Island are not coming to Linux

Here's hoping for those crossed wires because not having them on Linux (with these new graphics) would suck immensely for me.
I was planning to play those games again (played them on PS3) because they were both good.
I know that many/some gamers were disappointed by DI, but I was definitely not (really enjoyed the crafting part) and I really had a blast playing them.

For everyone ignoring these games because of negative reviews and so on; please don't. You need to play them and make your own mind, you might have a nice surprise.

Quoting: coruunFinally! I was following this since beginning of 2014, when it was greenlit as "Twin Souls: The Path of Shadows".
Indeed, I've been waiting for this one for quite some time.

Dota 2 updated to support the Vulkan API
24 May 2016 at 2:13 pm UTC

Quoting: liamdaweThe official site has no link to any kind of manual I could find. Unless I am blind, only found it by googling for it: http://www.phoronix-test-suite.com/documentation/phoronix-test-suite.html [External Link]

As for the GUI, it seems it does include some kind of HTML5 UI, but even that won't load without first configuring by a text file. It doesn't tell you what to configure either, just tells you to do it.
You don't have to configure anything, just start with "phoronix-test-suite gui" and agree to User Agreement.

I tried to use the famous Phoronix Test Suite to benchmark it, but I find that software to be rather cumbersome and annoying to use. I can't seem to get the Dota 2 benchmark to even run. I edited the script to actually point to my Dota 2 install (the PTS test relies on the default install location) but it doesn't find Steam). See my forum post on Phoronix here about it, maybe someone can shed some light as I've never really used PTS before. If I can get it to work, I will do some proper tests.
The GoL/Phoronix Blood Feud continues... :D
Not at all, I have great respect for his work despite my comments now and then (Read Phoronix for years), but PTS could use some quality of life updates to make it simpler to use. A UI wouldn't be a bad idea either.
Michael should indeed update some scripts from the suite (he has this habit of leaving less used scripts to rot), but not sure what you mean by "cumbersome and annoying to use", its graphical interface is already dead simple.

Combined with the TR-808 drum machine. I think we are onto something.

EDIT: because: Techno music.
It does look like something-something sound related, on their Facebook page they say:
No matter, even though the Feral Radar is mixing up its signature sound the message remains the same

Tomb Raider benchmark video comparison, Linux vs Windows 10

Quoting: rkfgI've created a script like this:
#!/bin/sh
env __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1 "$@"

and saved it under the name /usr/local/bin/glto, then I put "glto %command%" to the launch parameters of the game and voila.
Nice idea, thanks.

Quoting: XelancerOn the Linux version there is a flock of birds that fly past - YET those same birds don't seem to appear on the Windoze version?? Is there a decal limit or something on the Win10 version, could something like that explain the discrepancy in the results? I know some drivers even hard-limit to polygon counts and reduce polygons considered outside of visible range?
Even dedicated benchmarks are rarely identical to the last details. Run the benchmark enough times and you'll notice a bunch of differences between runs (on the same system).

Quoting: PangachatThis ingame benchmark is unusable, try to run around in Shanty Town in the linux version :P
True, but in order to have relevant benchmark results between two system/configuration you need multiple as much as possible identical runs, at least 3 per test and it also has to be easily reproducible by other users.
Without a dedicated benchmark is pretty hard to do that and just doing similar runs in random locations doesn't cut it for a correct comparison.
Indeed, the included benchmark does not show how demanding the game can be, but is better than nothing and it doesn't require for you to fiddle around with voglperf/libframetime etc to get the results.
