Valve clarifies how they test Native Linux or Proton for Steam Deck

Quoting: headless_cyborgI'm curious about Rise/Shadow of the TR because their Feral native ports are IMO perfect so they should be the way to go.
They're good ports but not perfect. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is still receiving updates that Feral hasn't added. They could go back and update all their games, but it's probably not profitable at this point.

Wine/Proton is an open source solution, while Feral's wrapper was not. Dare I say this is a better solution?
Regardless of the open-source vs proprietary argument, certain game ports will run better compared with Proton. And in this case, the ports of both ROTTR and SOTTR run better than the Proton counterparts.

Quoting: alejandro-bringasI hope that at some point they will remove the "launchers" from Feral games, such as Rise of TR or dirt games, where it can become annoying.
I rather see them being kept. I find them well done, very useful and as opposed with many launchers, they can be navigated with a gamepad. Feral did a good job and put some love into them, most if not all are customized for each game.
They can also be dismissed after the first run.

I wrote a snarky comment, but I changed my mind and deleted it. Actually I'd like to see a "hands -on" review of this, from some independent reviewer.
People liked (and some still do) to mock the Steam Controller touch-pads, as useless, not-usable/etc, but after using them for years I think they're best thing for a controller to have.
So yeah, I'm curious.

Quoting: dubigrasuThe demo is Linux native.
It's only showing Windows for me.
Ignore that, it does have a Linux version, they probably forgot/didn't bothered to update the steam page.

Might wanna force the vulkan build with -force-vulkan since the OpenGL build is somewhat under-performing.
in the full version the game did freeze for me with vulkan. I can use the menu but if I start a game the game freezes in the loading screen.
I'm not sure if the Vulkan build is even tested. From what I've seen so far, many devs only test the GL build, and the Vulkan option is available only because is added by default by Unity (for Linux builds). Which sucks because while Vulkan might offer better performance, it tends to be buggy (since is not tested).
Might be worth to report this.

Quoting: PublicNuisanceIs anyone else fed up with this annoying trend of developers not having a Linux version of their demo ? Also the part of the Linux system requirements including passmark scores is funny since it has no Linux version. I hope the game is good and I am lad they made a Linux version but the above is reason to be concerned about how much effort they put into the Linux port.

So I tried the demo which ran using Proton. The game was kind of janky, but the story; character creation; and RPG elements were all solid.
The demo is Linux native.

Quoting: Eikethey are working hard on making you subscribe and not use the free streaming. .
Well of course they do :) Every commercial entity worth their salt will want you to use the payed stuff and not the free one.

But at the same time they don't make/force you to subscribe.
From Stadia's landing page, right below "Try now":
