NES-style free chiptune music maker FamiStudio has a new release up

This looks really cool! I'd like to be able to make simple music for short videos, and this feels like it might be a little more manageable for someone with no musical ability.

Incredible emulator 3dSen PC converts classics into 3D and it's out now

Quoting: DesumNeat gimmick, but I can't get behind proprietary emulators. I'm not even a Stallmanist, but the point of emulation is preservation. Having your emulator be closed sauce runs counter to that.
From an ideology point of view, this is less an emulator and more just a cool thing to do with classic games. We have plenty of "more" open source emulators doing the preservation work. This one doing something different is okay with me. I paid for this because it is very cool tech that I'd like to support.

I can also easily imagine Nintendo/Microsoft/Sony implementing a technology like this and monetizing the hell out of it; probably making it console-exclusive, and maybe even removing the ability to play the original version of the game in the process. No thanks! Much better an indy developer do this and make a little money distributing it more fairly, while we still have the option of playing the original just as easily.

The Humble 'Female Protagonist Sale' is live, with some awesome Linux games

Okami HD [External Link] is still borked [External Link] on Proton. :( But it's still funny to see the game in the sale because years ago when the game first came out nobody knew Amaterasu was female! :D

But if you need a four-legged fix on Linux, Epistory [External Link] is included in the sale and featuring a large ride-able foxe! :D

It's a very interesting looking typing game I've been meaning to try out for a long time because I enjoyed the Typing of the Dead series, but I've never gotten around to trying it.

Very cool to see things that were pulled from Steam get on GOG! This is why we need healthy competition in game stores. Monopolies never benefit consumers.

I'll admit Proton has boosted my enthusiasm for Steam by... a lot. But I still prefer GOG as a store because the games aren't locked to a client and never have any DRM. Let's hope for a Linux GOG Galaxy client in the future that might pave the way for a Proton equivalent feature at some point.

I'm really, really happy about this! Please hear me out

For the past year or so the future of Linux gaming has looked very bleak. After Steam Machines failed to take off, then the Nintendo Switch started to be "the place" for indy games, and finally Linux seemed to be bottoming out in the Steam user surveys (just because of new Chinese windows users, but still it was not a good sign). After all that, I was honestly surprised about how many game releases we still got, but still, the "onward and upward" momentum was lost. We were holding steady at best, but were not gaining ground anymore. I thought a decline was inevitable. This could turn that around. This could be some hope for us.

It is true that this may discourage native development to some extent, so it might not be perfect, but let's be honest; we should be more worried about the future of Linux gaming, not the future of "perfect" Linux gaming. This could be what gives Linux gaming a future, and I will be happy for any future for Linux gaming.

Tactical RPG 'Chroma Squad' has a big Director’s Cut update with lots of goodies

Looks cool! Might be a good follow-up to Disgaea 2 for me!

And they have the right idea about live action in game trailers: if live action is going to be there, it should be brief! Get to the game ASAP! And the gag at the end of the live action actually made me laugh! So well done with the trailer at least!

Armello, the really fun digital board game now has a new DLC with new playable characters

I've had my eye on this one for a long time. I love the character designs, and I like turn-based strategy, but the reports in the Steam reviews of bugs paired with my lack of free time have prevented me from picking it up. But if you've played it and haven't had a problem, even on Livestream where bugs can be fatal, then that's definitely a good sign! Soon... soon I will find the time to play it and pick it up!

Rakuen, a great looking 2D indie adventure RPG arrives on Linux May 10th

I definitely might pick this one up! I'm one of those weirdos who played the older Zelda games and enjoyed talking to people in the towns and completing their side quests more than the dungeon puzzles or combat. It's going to the top of my Steam wishlist for now!

Block’hood, the upwards focused neighbourhood-building simulator is now on GOG

That looks cool! I love the verticality, and the low-poly graphics style I think looks great! But it's kind of impossible to judge a "city" builder by a trailer. Anyone tried it?

Disgaea 2 PC released, with same day Linux support

Quoting: InverseTelecineLegitimate Japanese visual novels might still be a bit rare on Linux, but there are hundreds of visual novels with anime style artwork available on Linux, and it's hard to tell the difference without playing it.
Okay... hold on I might have sounded dismissive there. I didn't mean to. Non-Japanese visual novels can be great games too! I was not trying to say otherwise! It's only my personal bias caused by a mild case of market saturation that dampens my enthusiasm. So the problem is me, not the games.
