Disgaea 2 PC released, with same day Linux support

Quoting: NyamiouWell we recently got Da Capo III R [External Link] which was released in Japan a long time ago but was a huge hit, and now it's on Linux.
That is cool! It might be a great game, but unfortunately I'm one of the perhaps short-sighted people who can't get too excited about a visual novel. Legitimate Japanese visual novels might still be a bit rare on Linux, but there are hundreds of visual novels with anime style artwork available on Linux, and it's hard to tell the difference without playing it.

But Disgaea... Damn! I still can't quite believe it! A true Japanese strategy RPG! And a really good one! PC port DAY ONE! It's a dream come true, and pretty much inarguably a very rare thing on Linux! Hopefully this will start to change that!

Puzzle Puppers is now officially on Linux, thanks to some messages from the community

I might be a bit biased by the cute factor. I don't know what to tell you. But I'm really enjoying it, and the port is flawless!

Puzzle Puppers, a really cute puzzle game could come to Linux with enough support

One gripe: I feel like I aught to be able to select a dog and at least move it to the end of a row of squares without have to click on each one. I guess doing too much auto-navigating like that would over-simplify some of the early levels, but it still bugs me a bit. But the port performance is still perfect!

Seems to work flawlessly for me! I tried it in both windowed mode and fullscreen on my single-monitor setup, running Xubuntu 16.04. The 5 minutes I first played it ran without a hitch! I like it! The puzzles are fun little distractions with a clever gimmick, and I find the simple graphics and animations to be really cute! It's obviously a small budget title without much flash in the presentation, but it doesn't feel like a rushed or sloppy game either. I don't expect to get a lot of time out of it, but the price is definitely right (on sale for $4 USD), and I'm having fun so far! And... come on! I have to give a ton of credit for the quick and competent port job! I mean damn that's fast! :D

Damn! The dev posted an update with the first Linux build a few hours after I posted saying I'd buy it! A lot of people came before me of course, but still, that's service! :D I'm testing it now!

Holy crap! This is... a really good sign that they will actually give us a port for this! Honestly, when I read the announcement article on GOL a few months ago my thought was "Man that would be awesome... but why do I get a sinking feeling like with Giana Sisters and Witcher 3?!" But this... this is as rock-solid evidence as we're likely to get this early on! So awesome! JRPGs and Japanese-developed strategy RPGs are a serious weakness in Linux's library! This would do wonders! Instabuy on port launch!

What one game would blow your mind if it came to Linux & SteamOS?

1. Final Fantasy 6/7/8/9/10/12/13

Yeah, I know; it's not cool to like JRPGs. You're right, I am "the problem." ;)

That being said, I feel really fortunate that I usually enjoy indie games much more than the big "AAA" titles. If you had asked me this question six months ago I would have said:

1. Stardew Valley
2. Undertale

And... that worked out pretty well! :D

I am of course in favor of encouraging the porting of "AAA" games; I bought Tomb Raider and Dawn of War 2 a while ago to support the Linux ports and... I haven't actually played them yet. But whenever we talk about "AAA" titles we have a few people say something like: "I'm sick of crappy indie games; nobody likes those anyway."

Can we please stop that kind of talk? A lot of indie games are good, and a lot of people like them. Insulting the games we have will NOT help get games we don't have.

Meet 'Vilmonic', the pixel styled artificial life simulator, it's quite sweet

It looks kind of like an early DOS-era Stardew Valley if the developer had been tripping out on controlled substances during the entire development cycle. I'M SOLD! :D

I'll definitely check this out when I have time. You've made me a fan of Itch and their native Linux client so I'm always looking for more good games available there!

Quoting: slaapliedjeI initially got a GearVR for my Note 4. It was pretty cool, but I didn't even have much luck with any streaming from the computer to it. Netflix and the 360 video stuff is neat, but you are right, 'Mobile' gaming is crap, VR or not... give me back hardware buttons on a phone and gaming might be better...
Yeah, mobile gaming seems like such a terminally infested (with microtransactions) arena that even when I find a game that looks good all I ever think is "ugh, I wonder how they ruin this one."

Quoting: slaapliedjeDread halls is pretty awesome, but the fact that Oculus Activities and Facebook Messenger somehow cheat and auto-update on my phone even though I tell the play store to ot auto update..

Anyhow, before phone / tablet to PC streaming becomes actually usable, we would probably want better wifi and more Vulkan support so it isn't yack city.
I'm not convinced Vulkan would be a requirement, even for medium range systems. The resolution that the games need to put out for the little areas of the mobile device's screen is pretty low, and the frame rate required isn't nearly what it is for Vive. It really shouldn't be too hard even without optimal performance.

Quoting: slaapliedjeThat and the difference between head tracking with goggles vs 'true' VR where you can interact with things... you just aren't going to get that from the cheaper things for years to come. Even the PS4 VR doesn't do that all that well.
Wait, stop. Let's take a step back here. VR is still way too new a technology to start talking about what is "real" or "true" already. Mobile device based VR is still plenty impressive even if it's not on the same technical level as Vive. We can always ruin any experience for ourselves by thinking about how there is a "better" experience out there somewhere. That is a pointless way of thinking that will keep us from enjoying what we have, even when we have plenty to enjoy!

What I really want is an option to stream VR content from a Linux PC to the likes of Cardboard or GearVR using phones/tablets. I have a set up right now that I'm pretty happy with using a Samsung refurbished tablet (so no cellular contract) and a Homido VR goggle set that is big enough to fit the tablet. Works great and cost me about $250 for everything. I don't know of anything that can match that price for VR right now. The problem is all phone VR games are junk, and all the streaming from PC software I know of is windows only. Hopefully this will be an option soon, because I won't be able to afford Oculus/Vive anytime soon.
